Mark Robinson tells women to get their groins 'under control' in bizarre anti-birth control rant

The Republican candidate for governor in North Carolina has gone viral yet again for his abhorrent comments — this time for remarks he made during a January 2022 appearance at Hilltop Baptist Church in Thomasville, N.C., in a video shared by Huffpost. Robinson mocked women's empowerment as well as educational programs that provide sex and contraception information.

“Why don’t you use some of that building up of your mind and building up of empowerment to move down here, to this region down here,” he said, gesturing to his crotch. “Get this under control.”

Robinson repeatedly disparaged sex education in his speech, as well as the availability of birth control, which includes even oral pills and condoms. The conservative has called for bans on reproductive health care, including a ban on abortion for "any reason," despite admitting he took his wife to get one early in their relationship.

“See, because this region right here, that’s the only region on your body that can make life and take life,” he continued. “If there’s anything we need to be telling our young people, it’s they need to be responsible with their reproductive systems. That means you don’t lay down and act like you’re making a baby til you’re ready to have a baby.”

“All this giving out of birth control and advising people how,” Robinson said. “Here’s how you don’t have a baby: You don’t have what you do to make a baby until you’re ready to have that baby.”

Robinson, the first Black lieutenant governor of North Carolina, has repeatedly made headlines for his contentious remarks about the LGBTQ+ community, as well as anti-Semitic comments including Holocaust denial and promoting reading Adolf Hitler.

An Ohio sheriff is under fire for a social media post in which he said people with Kamala Harris yard signs should have their addresses recorded so that immigrants can be sent to live with them if the Democrat wins the presidency. Good-government groups called it a threat and urged him to remove the post.

Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski, a Republican in the thick of his own reelection campaign, posted a screenshot of a Fox News segment that criticized Democratic President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris over their immigration record and the impact on small communities like Springfield, Ohio, where an influx of Haitian migrants has caused a political furor in the presidential campaign.

Likening people in the U.S. illegally to “human locusts,” Zuchowski wrote on a personal Facebook account and his campaign’s account: “When people ask me... What’s gonna happen if the Flip-Flopping, Laughing Hyena Wins?? I say ... write down all the addresses of the people who had her signs in their yards!” That way, Zuchowski continued, when migrants need places to live, “we’ll already have the addresses of their New families ... who supported their arrival!”

GOP congressman posts, then deletes, racist comments about Haitians

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Higgins called Haitians “thugs,” called Haiti the “nastiest country in the western hemisphere,” and repeated false and dehumanizing claims about pet-eating. The remarks were called out and he deleted the post, though he has not yet issued an apology.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, also a Louisiana Republican, told reporters Higgins was approached by colleagues who told him the post was “offensive.” Johnson said he then spoke to Higgins about it, after which Higgins “prayed about it and he regretted it and he pulled the post down.”

“That’s what you want the gentleman to do,” Johnson said.

Higgins’s post referenced the falsehood spread in recent weeks by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and running mate Sen. JD Vance that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating pets. The claims prompted bomb threats that closed schools and necessitated the deployment of state troopers and left Haitians fearful for their safety.

Ohio’s Republican governor, Mike DeWine; the town’s mayor; and other elected officials have refuted and condemned the false claims. But most Republicans have been reluctant to directly criticize Trump and Vance for repeating the accusations, and neither candidate has walked back the claim.

In the post, Higgins threatened that Haitians should get “out of our country before January 20th.” He also ridiculed a lawsuit against Trump and Vance brought by the leader of a Haitian nonprofit over their false claims.
