It's discouraging how many subjects sound interesting until you delve into them and discovery that they're actually incredibly dull.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

This weather change has hit me harder than usual. My nose is running like crazy. And I can't stop sneezing.

Looking through recipes looking for some new dessert for the holidays. Found one that sounded pretty good till I reached the part where you cook it for 1520 minutes. I don't think my family wants to eat charcoal even if I top it with whipped cream.

That's a blast from the past. When I was a kid, Mum did week-ahead baking (making enough bread for the whole family for an entire week). She'd save us scraps of dough that we'd roll into balls or other shapes and leave them in a slow oven overnight. They came out a shiny black with small crystals protruding here and there. One of my brothers caught a bit of barney for telling his classmates that we had an uncle who was an astronaut and these lumps were moon rocks he brought back. He sold them for 50p each and made a little money before he was found out. Boru

Edit Reason: clarity

I receive pleasure from pointing out where the samples come from in the music my teens "discover."
Elder discovered Biggie and "Hypnotize" so I played the Herb Alpert tune, "Rise." Now, I'm no big fan of ole Herb, in fact that's the only song I know. In contrast I know at least a dozen Biggie tunes. But for a 70's smarmy bar trumpet song it has a good groove. Which has been sampled. A bit more of this and they won't play their tunes for me anymore. Winning. I went through something similar when my son was in his teens. He decided he wanted a Bob Marley shirt and a Jimmy Hendrix shirt on a couple different shopping excursions. I made him listen to the artists on the way home. If you are going to sport that person's image, you are at least going to know what they are known for. Damnit. |
