RE: Noteworthy News
Quote:The researchers say they found “numerous” instances where publishers’ content was inaccurately cited by ChatGPT — also finding what they dub “a spectrum of accuracy in the responses.” So while they found “some” entirely correct citations (i.e. meaning ChatGPT accurately returned the publisher, date, and URL of the block quote shared with it), there were “many” citations that were entirely wrong, and “some” that fell somewhere in between.

In short, ChatGPT’s citations appear to be an unreliable mixed bag. The researchers also found very few instances where the chatbot didn’t project total confidence in its (wrong) answers.

Some of the quotes were sourced from publishers that have actively blocked OpenAI’s search crawlers. In those cases, the researchers say they were anticipating that it would have issues producing correct citations. But they found this scenario raised another issue — as the bot “rarely” ‘fessed up to being unable to produce an answer. Instead, it fell back on confabulation in order to generate some sourcing (albeit, incorrect sourcing).

“In total, ChatGPT returned partially or entirely incorrect responses on 153 occasions, though it only acknowledged an inability to accurately respond to a query seven times,” said the researchers. “Only in those seven outputs did the chatbot use qualifying words and phrases like ‘appears,’ ‘it’s possible,’ or ‘might,’ or statements like ‘I couldn’t locate the exact article’.”

Quote:South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol attempted to declare martial law in the country for the first time in 45 years but was blocked by a parliament vote early Wednesday morning local time.

National Assembly Speaker Woo Won Shik vowed to “protect democracy with the people” while urging military personnel to retreat from the legislative building, according to reports from the Associated Press. All 190 members who participated in the vote moved to block the declaration.

Before attempting to declare martial law, Suk Yeol described the parliament as a “den for criminals” who were “attempting to overthrow” the nation’s democracy.

“Our parliament has become a den for criminals. It has paralyzed the administrative and legal systems by ramming through [opposition-driven] legislations and is attempting to overthrow our democratic system,” Suk Yeol, the president and leader of the People Power Party, said in his announcement according to Reuters.

“Our parliament, which should serve as the foundation of democracy, has become a monster toppling it,” he added.

Moments later he tried to invoke martial law.

“I declare martial law to protect the free Republic of Korea from the threat of North Korean communist forces, to eradicate the despicable pro-North Korean anti-state forces that are plundering the freedom and happiness of our people, and to protect the free constitutional order,” he said.

The repudiation of this was swift and unanimous by the parliament. His own party bailed on him. One would think he must resign.

After posting my article the repudiation of the SoKor parliament was made clear, and job well done on them.

Trump tapped Jared Isaacman to head NASA. Not a scientist, not an astronaut, no government experience. He is a billionaire who set up a paysite who's buddies with Elmo.

Space enthusiasts are generally giddy at this choice. Even the more level-headed are cautious at worst. I'm sure he will have the best of intentions but there are two things that concern me:

Although he has proven to be an excellent leader in private enterprise, government works much differently. He may be in for a great deal of frustration. He will have some power but congress holds the purse strings. Historically, logic and efficiency hasn't played much of a role in what they have approved or denied.

There are tons of potential conflicts of interest. He has paid for two missions with SpaceX and has a lot of ties with the company. How can a SpaceX competitor expect an unbiased review when competing for contracts?
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Putting a 41-year-old with no relevant degrees (or any degrees) at NASA is preposterous. His likely purpose is to make NASA a subsidiary of SpaceX so that it receives massive infusions of taxpayer dollars, thus turning NASA into an instrument of whatever Elon wants to do at SpaceX.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

He's done no such thing as prove himself to be a great leader in private enterprise. The gov recently cancelled his contracts because they weren't up to the job. He cashed out before the fall, ofc.

This week on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers revealed he's an atheist and doesn't believe in the afterlife:

"I think this is it...I don't think there's anything after we die, but that is why you gotta find it here...You gotta make everything here count."
