When a person says, "They are just being political," you can safely assume that the person himself is being political. It is an attempt to negatively load the word "political."

However, politics can be either positive or negative, so the question isn't whether something is political or not but whether it is accurate or not. Saying some action is political really doesn't tell us much by itself.

The political actions against Trump, for instance, were more than justified, especially considering his subsequent reactions. It would have been political malpractice not to pursue them.
