Personally, when I raise my children I am going to aim to teach them how to think/ask questions not what to think. If my children arrive at belief in a deity I may try to reason with them about it but I will not tell/force on them atheism. I think teaching people how to think/apply reason and letting them find their own path is the ultimate definition of freedom.

I will most definitely intervene though if they start getting scared that some being is going to torch them or that there is something watching them do everything including peeing.

Fr0do answer my questionTongue where have you been?!

logical and rational thinking is a life skill. It isnt brainwashing because it gives them the ability and freedom to think and question on their own without fear. Give them a chance to see it from a different perspective. it is only brainwashing when I take away their freedom of thought to become a theist if they wish to after given the freedom to think and investigate for themselves.....something theist parents wont do.

Lol if that is ever the case ( I wont be alive to witness it) and religion is no more, the term atheism would lose its meaning and not necessary anymore. It wouldnt make any sense using it.

Using logic while arguing with a christian,is like yelling at someone who you know is deaf.
Therefore,pointless.

Fr0d0, is that a butt-cake in your avatar?
If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925

Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan

Gale is FOR "ripping religion from anyone I can". This seems like a positive use of energy.

Give Gale a break - saying "fucking wibbly wibble" is flawless logic compared to theistic waffle.

Quote:Just a tint niggle; wanting to tear down religion because [implicitly) the world will be a better place is neither rational nor logical. It's Utopian/magical thinking..

Religion needs to be destroyed. I'm in Gale's corner.

Quote:ME ?recovering Catholic for over 40 years. I think organised religion is parasitical and a carbuncle on the arse of humanity. I'm also confident that if religion disappeared overnight we humans would remain the same greedy, stupid, self destructive animals we have always been. You would probably notice a different set of justifications, but no difference whatsoever in the behaviour of our species. .

You're probably right - get rid of religion and climate change or something else will fill the gap.

However, let's try and find out.

You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.
