The last surviving Battle of Britain pilot, John "Paddy" Hemingway, has died at the age of 105.
Mr Hemingway, who was originally from Dublin, joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) as a teenager before World War Two. At 21, he was a fighter pilot in the Battle of Britain, a three-month period when air force personnel defended the skies against a large-scale assault by the German air force, the Luftwaffe. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer paid tribute to Mr Hemingway, saying his courage and those of all RAF pilots had "helped end WWII and secure our freedom". https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg1z42pkj8o
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

George was likable all right.
We all favor certain traits in another and usually that means traits similar to our own. George (at least for me) was one of those people who had traits different from me which I admired. We would not have agreed on all things but I can't help but see him as such a good soul (for lack of a better word). He did good as he understood good. His intensions were good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aucl4rj9Az0 RIP George.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
