Wow. You are SO bad at this. I mean like steering-the-Titanic-into-the-iceberg level bad. Like Chamberlain-waving-that-bit-of-paper level bad. If being bad at this was an Olympic sport, you’d be a shoe-in for the gold. If it was a car, you’d be the Austin Allegro.

And I don’t expect you’ll get any better.

You can't call a sample size insufficient just because you think it's small, you have to actually calculate it.
Ah I see, but you and Belaqua can just pluck an unevidenced anecdote about two people, and no calculations are required. Comedy fucking gold again... I can't tell if you're trolling or not, I do hope for your sake you are.

Irrelevant? Not to anyone familiar with statistics, determining sample size is one of the first steps. You can't call a sample size insufficient just because you think it's small, you have to actually calculate it.

Oh, I see what happened.

I pointed to two Christians I know as an example of how some Christians think of theology. Thump concluded from this that these are the only two Christians I know and that my entire knowledge of how they think comes from this pair.

Cultural inertia is when the truck carrying the Michelangelo sculptures runs out of gas and coasts for a while.

You said you knew two people and that was representative of all of a certain group, you disingenuous fuck.

That's not at all what happened, not even close.

Quote:Belacqua Wrote:

I remember meeting a Christian couple here in Hiroshima -- he was from Hiroshima and she was from Nagasaki. They were both doctors who had spent the majority of their careers doing charity work. He was a founding member of an anti-nuke organization that won the Nobel Peace Prize.

I asked them about their theological beliefs and they said they had never thought about it. It was the least important part of Christianity in their eyes.

So I suspect this is true of the majority. And it's the reason why trying to dissuade them from Christianity by asking for objective evidence of a prime mover -- or something like that -- is a niche hobby for people on line, but doesn't make much difference in their lives.
The inference is pretty clear, it was you who cited this anecdotal chat with two people, then made the assertion enlarged and underlined.

Can you say "Kiss Ass?"  I know you can.

I could, but just at this moment "This dim bulb is using too small a sample size again" has a nice ring to it. I know, it's a bit of a mouthful, but seeing as how he'd only have needed to read the first few replies to have hit my similar response on the first page rather than a whole whiny 84 pages in.

It's Valk, he is trying to kiss her ass.  I have a hunch that she would hurt him.

 - She is probably the only member of staff he doesn't have on ignore.

If I had my 'drothers' it would be against the rules to put staff on ignore.  But it's not my playground, I just hang out here.
