Thinking back over my recent trip to SC.  I had a neighbor when we lived there who became a beloved friend.  She is quite religious but not pushy about it....her faith seems so organic.  She grew up hard and has experienced some rough stuff but overall has a happy prosperous life.  I spent two afternoons sitting on her front porch and it was some of the best times of the journey.  The first day I mentioned that we were an unlikely pair to have become so close.

We went to lunch and I spaced out the praying first thing.  She said she wanted to say grace and I said "Of course" and put my fork down.  As she free-styled her prayer thanking father God for the food to nourish out bodies, etc...she then added- Thank you father God for bringing awty all this way just to see me- then she giggled a bit.  She knows where I stand with religion.

I will long remember those hours on her porch talking about things heavy and things light-hearted.

She is one of my favorite people in the world.  I think I miss her more than I realized.

Ahriman is correct.  It should be "In its own unique way" --  "its," just like "his."

"It's" with an apostrophe is a contraction for "it is."

Fun fact: Bruce Almighty was the first PG-13 film I had ever seen to actually drop the F bomb. As you can imagine, the shock of this implanted in my memory.



And I actually just watched that scene for the first time since it was in theaters. Somehow, I had a vivid memory of this particular moment that somehow was a lot different. For one thing, I remembered Jim Carrey in a yellow raincoat, and more glaringly, instead of saying “back to you, fuckers” in an awkward tone, he shouted “SO LONG, FUCKERS!”

Looking up that scene, I found that other people remembered it differently, but their big divergence was that he flipped the camera off. Oddly, my memory of this scene didn’t even include any gestures.

Memory is fucking weird.
