If you mean the bat incident, that story is largely a myth. Yes, he bit the head off a bat, but the bat was dead and Oz mistook it for a toy, which his fans had been throwing onstage for years. There was no ‘animal cruelty’ involved.
If you mean the time he killed his family’s 17 cats, it’s an urban myth.

Actually, he admitted to it in 2009. By all accounts, this was in his "Take a shitton of drugs, wear one of Sharon's dresses, and piss on a public monument" years. He seemed to do what he can in his later years to atone for this, even working with PeTA for anti-declawing ads. For what it's worth, looking up "Ozzy Osborne animal cruelty" on Google, I found this obituary from PeTA that's surprisingly positive.

I do hope that when I pass, I'm judged on the totality of my life, and not on the moments when I failed. To judge someone on a small number of incidents, which were less than stellar, but also blown up out of all proportion by a media that really didn't like him at the height of career is, to put it kindly, incredibly short sighted. Then again, to quote Ozzy, "The media sells it, and you live the roll."
The Ozzman passeth, and he will be missed by a great many people. He touched the lives of many in a career spanning over 50 years.
Farewell to thee, Ozzy!

Neither do I. For instance, Ted Nugent is a human piece of shit. But he's a hell of a rocker. I love Damn Yankees. I'm not going to stop listening to them because Nugent falls way short of my moral standards. But I'm not going to shed any tears when he departs this earth (assuming he does so before I do) either.
Admittedly, I'm less familiar with Ozzy Osborne's work than I am with Ted Nugent's. I don't have anything to counter balance his (IMHO) moral failings.

You want the truth? I've learned long ago to not treat artists of any kind as musical guides. Frankly, my view of the world and human nature is dark enough that the impulse to hold artists personally accountable for their own misdeeds isn't very easy to separate from, well, this scene:
Just saying, I don't see a lot of good in people these days (or, frankly, since I was a child, but knowing that a good-sized portion of the population can STILL think Trump is a good enough leader to re-elect does not help).

Snopes says there’s no evidence that it ever happened. Given the amount of drugs in his system for all those years, it’s perfectly plausible that Ozzy himself came to believe the myth.

They’re calling Hogan’s cause of death cardiac arrest. I’m sure it’s just a coinkidink that had nothing to do with his years of steroid abuse.
