Speaking of earworms, I had this guitar riff stuck in my head, and noodled it out until I could play it, but I'll be be damned if I could remember what song it was from. Then, the next day, I couldn't remember the riff. Today, I was listening to Spotify and I heard it - it was "The Clairvoyant" by Iron Maiden, kind of an obscure track.
Now I can't get it out of my head. 
Funny thing. I can get all kinds of tunes running loose in my head, but if I run "The Ocean" from Led Zeppelin thru my head for awhile, they all go away. What's interesting is that I really like that tune. But it never gets stuck.

Right now, I have Kenny Rogers and the First Edition's, "Just Dropped In, To See What Condition My Condition Was In" running around in my head. That's a funny song; I don't mind it. It'll fade pretty soon- I'll be putting in my earbuds in search of another worm, shortly.

I often wonder where in the heck an earworm comes from. For me, it's often I song I haven't actually heard in what seems like forever and it just shows up on repeat in my brain.

Speaking of....
My latest is a fragment from a Pennywise song with a line from the chorus that goes "I got a time bomb ticking in my head, ticking in my head" except in my head it's "chicken in my head". What. The. Fuck. 
I think there's something to the idea of using exposure to dislodge an earworm. This morning I had "Lean On Me" running through my head. Sometime later, it was replaced by Babymonster's "Drip," which has some rather inane lyrics and stupid chorus. So once I got up, I refreshed my memory of Girls Generation's Lionheart, and that became the current earworm, with occasional bouts of "We Go Up." If I'm not careful, though, I start thinking about "Drip" again.
