Atheist tattoo advice
#21
RE: Atheist tattoo advice
Don't get a fucking tattoo of 'atheist', in any language shape or form.

And if your non/anti-theism is SO IMPORTANT to you that you'd get a tattooed message out of it:

Then you are an idiot.

Hopefully you're not and you will stop this nonsense right here... at most wear an atheism bracelet or hat.

Hell, I'm a fucking transwoman (my womanhood being among the most important things to me) and I don't want to tattoo it anywhere on my person. I have a bracelet. I'm happy with my bracelet. Message tattoos are stupid. Only get a tattoo if you like how it *looks*... and if you can honestly picture yourself age 90 with shriveling, wrinkly, decaying baggy skin and STILL THINK IT LOOKS GOOD.

It's why you should never get a tattoo drunk Tongue

Vae, wrinkly skin is ugly in and of itself. Ink doesn't matter by then.

Tattoos with meaning are way better than tattoos that just *look* good. What the fuck is the point of having a pretty picture on yourself? A tattoo is a storybook. My storybook says, I'm American, I loved my childhood dog very much, I like birds, Lord of the Rings is the best book ever written, 2004 sucked, my grandmother really liked roses and I really like Pink Floyd. A fucking picture wouldn't say that much about a person.

Tattoos with meaning?
The only meaning I'd put on tattoos are either gang signs, or political alignment. Other than that...Maybe my mother.
No one else.

White supremacists love their mamas. I happen to love a lot of things.

Gang affiliation tattoos are the stupidest fucking thing a human being can do when it comes to tattoos. Have you ever seen American History X? People change. Tattoos don't.

This is why I'll never get a tattoo.
But I'm fairly certain that I'm now a person which has a set of firmly set thoughts and beliefs, however, I do not need to ink them on my skin, where most people will never get a chance to see them in the first place.
Gang tattoos, how stupid they might be, are the only practical use for tattoos outside of the general looks I can think of.
No man that I know that had a tattoo wore one to simply bring across a message.
At least, if they did, I certainly had no knowledge of it.

What do you mean people won't get a chance to see it? I have a tattoo on my forearm. Whenever I wear anything less than a full sleeve, people see it. It doesn't tout my political or religious beliefs. It certainly does not label my gang affiliation. It still says plenty to me.

Well, I generally wear clothing with long sleeves, and as long as it's not on my hands, most people probably won't get a chance to see it.
Not that I'm going to give up my clothing preferences so I can get a tattoo...
Besides, what does your tattoo look like?
And what exactly does it say about you anyways?

That particular tattoo is a rose with very faint hints of yellow in it. Above the rose is "2004." Below is the name of a Pink Floyd song "Wish You Were Here." It says that I love some people who are no longer with me or who were not with me for a significant period of time. I will be adding four more dates to it this year. Hopefully, it will be a long time before I have to add more.

Hmm...A reminder of your loved ones, I guess.
Well, how do you know that you are going to add four more dates?
Are they on the brink of crossing over? Or they did already, and you did not get them tattooed just yet?
Pardon me if I speak a bit too straightforward about this, I mean no offense.

It's okay. I don't find it offensive.

They are all already gone. One died many years ago, but I didn't get the date for his death when I got this tattoo because I was so young I didn't remember what year it was that he passed away off the top of my head and I got the tattoo in a hurry. I got the tattoo the day after someone passed away and included a few other aspects, but I was very far away from home when I got it, so I was then unable to add the date for Shane. Two of my grandparents died in the past two years, so I also have to add them. I got the rose for my other grandmother, who died when I was eight, but I have since decided to add her date to it as well, to add some cohesiveness to it. Also, my other grandmother liked yellow roses too, so I figure that can represent the matriarchs of my family. She was still alive when I got it and, being young, I didn't imagine it would have to represent her anytime soon. I was wrong.
