If he was alive today, do you think he would believe in god? And if so, would his belief be based on evidence?
What evidence did he have back then, after all he figured out? What does the guy who headed up the genome project have? What evidence do I have for my irrationality about plants? That's why it's irrational. The guy worked out a ridiculous amount of science based on the knowledge he had gleaned from prior generations and his own observations, but also was an alchemist - did you know that? He thought he could turn base metal into gold.
If he were alive today, maybe that would translate to a perpetual motion machine. Maybe he would believe more in Spinoza's god, not a Christian one. I'm just saying - don't call a person an idiot because they believe something idiotic. It's a portion of their character, not a whole, and unfair to characterize a man or woman by a piece of their own puzzle as much as a whole group by one or a few individuals.
I'm not operating under the assumptions that he would hold the same beliefs now, after everything happening since his life - were he alive now, he'd have more tools at his disposal and probably beliefs that in a 100-400 years will be called foolish. But that doesn't make him an idiot.

I didn't ask about you (although I should have cause you were smokin hot in that hat). Just Newton. I'm not calling nobody an idiot, I'm not calling anyones beliefs idiotic (even though they are), just asking about the guy you brought up.

Well, I just gave my opinion. The other questions were mostly rhetorical.
PS...what hat? I don't remember a hat in the recent past.

I'm still waiting to find out why posting a graphic means I'm arrogant. Anybody understand that stupid reasoning?

Frances Collins.
'He familiarized himself with the evidence for and against God in cosmology, and used Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis[38] as a foundation to re-examine his religious view. He eventually came to a conclusion, and finally became an Evangelical Christian during a hike on a fall afternoon. He has described himself as a "serious Christian".[20]'(wiki)
Love how he used C.S Lewis, a prominent British Christian writer to re-examine his religious views(reads - CHRISTIAN VIEWS) to help him with his decision. Why didn't he use Ahmad ibn Ajiba, a Sufi mystic? Or some famous buddhists' work? What a crock of shit.
A+ Fucking idiot.

I think being called arrogant is a good thing, it's a submission by someone else for their lack of knowledge and the only way they can get back at you is by calling you arrogant. Read my Hitchens sig.
But I have no idea why you were called arrogant.

I think arrogant was used in place of "he over-generalized" and in this case showed a supreme amount of laziness as I was able to describe why I thought you were wrong with minimal effort.
Do you mean the boater with the black band? Because I wasn't wearing anything blue. But thank you for the compliment at any rate.

Correction: I meant to direct my contempt toward 5thHM, not Phil.
RANT ALERT: Yeah, and I have a study that shows the efficacy of prayer, except I don't believe or really care about it, because most studies of those type, including the one 5th presented almost always reflect the bias of the researcher. What I do see is another example of "I must be smarter than all these religious people because I'm an atheist." What's rational at all about that. It's like saying...
I'm smart because I'm atheist.
How do you know?
Because theists are stupid.

He didn't deserve your "contempt" either just for posting a study, but if you prefer to get offended go ahead.
