RE: Death Penalty

I see repeatedly here, that killing is more expensive than life-imprisonment... but i do not see how.
How hard is it to kill a man...? Does it take something so complicated and expensive as a special blend of toxic chemicals...? Or can it be done as easily as jabbing a sharp object into flesh...? Could it not even be done by a single pull of a trigger...?
Why should a person linked to a long-planned brutal murder... recieve eternal peace from our law? Why should we treat a terrorist any differantly in prison... than we do on the battlefield? Where is the justice in granting peace to those who have given naught but agony to others?
Where is the fairness in gently killing those who have barbarically murdered? To do so would be to insult the memory of the victim, their family, their friends, and their country. I disagree with the death penalty, as i disagree with killing another living being for anything but food (and even then it is to my distaste)... but i do not, and never will agree with unfair treatment.
But then again... this does come from one who is once a proud philosopher, and twice an ashamed criminal.

The cost is in the legal system for doing the appeals. You see, it is preferable that the person executed actually be guilty.

In an ideal world, indeed. Sadly,DNA technology has shown there are rather a lot of unsafe convictions within the US penal system. I think it would be naive to assume new technology has done any more than to scratch the surface.
My position on Capital punishment began to change when I was 12 and the case of Caryl Chessman. He was held on death row for 11 years and then executed. At the time I was horrified, and thought such a system cruel, unjust and barbaric. I still do.

Capital Punishment was suspended in the UK in 1965,the suspension became abolition in 1969.
The last person executed in Australia was Ronald Ryan,in 1967. Capital punishment was finally abolished in ALL Australian states in 1984.

Fortunately, some states are beginning to get the message.

Quote:HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Facing huge budget deficits, eight states are considering repealing the death penalty to save money. Pennsylvania isn't one of them.
But there hasn't been an execution in Pennsylvania in nearly a decade, and that has critics questioning the program's cost.

In the UK cost does not decide, our parliament does and it abolished the death penalty 40 years ago and I am so glad it did.
A man is born to a virgin mother, lives, dies, comes alive again and then disappears into the clouds to become his Dad. How likely is that?

I am personally against it. I live in MA, a state without the Death Penalty. My reasons in a nutshell come down to my moral belief that it is ineffective as a deterrent, more costly than life, and most importantly in my mind mistakes are made and innocent people die.
I have more to say, but I want people to respond first.
I am for it 100%. I am actually for getting it done and over with quickly as to save tax payers dollars. I understand there is a very small percentage of people who are convicted of a murder that would require the death penalty. We have very accurate ways of scientifically proving someone did a certain crime. Child molesters, rapists, serial killers, and pre meditated murderers should all be put to death. As a matter of fact I think they should let a close family member of the victim be the one to flip the switch. If someone did any of those things to my child I can tell you I'd do everything possible to kill them before the state had a chance to. Even if it meant being put to death myself.

According to my husband not very hard. He was in Iraq and said that before you know it you'll be looking for reasons to kill someone. I also had my father tell me the same thing and he was a Korean war vet.
I don't think it would be very hard to kill someone if your life was in danger or they severely harmed someone who you loved.
