Didn't watch it. Didn't watch the last one. In fact, since they started allowing professionals in I don't think I've watched much of the olympics at all.

It was invented at CERN, they made sure we all knew that when I went there It was mostly good, the random bit in the field with the people who really couldn't play badminton was weird, and I dislike that bonkers was the song given the most play ( probably owing to the fact Dizzee rascal was there ).
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. - J.R.R Tolkien
I agree Tobes.
I was watching it with friends and we all lost our shit when J.K came on.
Her books were a big part of our childhoods though, so it's understandable. I also liked the idea that at the start it was showing how we changed from an agricultural nation to an industrial one, however I think It sounded better in theory. Felt like it dragged on a bit and not much was happening. I'm also very disappointed that David Tennant didn't light the torch! Do people not realise what they've done!? It was a fixed point in time... now we're all going to die The giant baby that looked like it had bowl problems was a bit weird, but not necessarily bad. Mary Poppins vs Voldemort and what I assume were people representing nightmares was very awesome. So yeah, mixed feelings about it really.
The Christian religion is a very powerful and convincing mistake, that's all.

Boris's's's welcome says it all for me Quote:Mary Poppins vs Voldemort and what I assume were people representing nightmares was very awesome. I've always thought Mary Poppins, with her terminal cheerfulness, was more psychotically creepy than poor old misery guts,Tom Riddle. RE: Olympic Opening Ceremony, thoughts?

Oh ffs, I clicked an option by accident.
Fucking busted old mouse. Nevermind, fixed. Yeah, didn't see it. Heard it had something to do with farmers and livestock. Sounds dodgy, like a stag party in Norfolk.

You mean like this; I am not enthusiastic about the Olympics but the opening ceremony was incredible. Danny Boyle did a fantastic job. It was perfectly British, and self-deprecation is, like it or not, a huge part of being British. I absolutely loved it, some of the music sections could be seen as going too far, and I was a little meh about the Artic Monkeys involvement, but nothing took away from it being so very very very us.

If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside? The f**king janitor or the dude who runs the waterslide. Throughout history every mystery. Ever solved has turned out to be. Not Magic. ― Tim Minchin, Storm (July 28, 2012 at 9:12 pm)Speak Silence Wrote: I was watching it with friends and we all lost our shit when J.K came on. Meh I hate the Harry Potter books. She gets her ideas from so many other books it's unbelievable. But still, I'm not knocking what she's accomplished, whether I think she's a good writer or not she's still sold a shit load of books. Personally I would of liked to have seen Tolkein get more recognition, Charles Dickens, Roald Dahl etc. They're much better authors. That was actually representing children's imagination and celebrating literature etc. I thought it was pretty cool. Quote:So yeah, mixed feelings about it really. Look on the bright side, At least the London Olympics didn't feature computer generated fireworks during the supposedly "live" broadcast like during the Beijing olympics. Or had Sarah Brightman sing in her ultra-high pitched voice a theme song so soppy it makes one shrivel into one's chair, or found a cute 8 year old to lip sync to a because the 8 year old who really did the singing wasn't cute enough. |
