Creationist arguments thread

RE: Creationist arguments thread
I used to work with a born again Christian who swore blind that women were created from the rib that God removed from Adam and that is why men have one less rib than women. I eventually persuaded him to go home that night and count his and his wifes ribs.

He came in the next morning absolutely amazed that they had the same number.

Did you explain to him that if you cut off your hand, your children will still be born with two hands! Shock horror!

Not a CREATIONIST arguement but this just posted at the raytractors blog:

Christianity:
The belief that some cosmic Jewish Zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

Makes perfect sense

Oh yeah I've heard that plenty of times.

We won't go into why the creator also made the malaria parasite, wasps that paralyse their prey so that their larvae can eat them alive, viruses, harmful bacteria, tsunamis and earthquakes.

That's probably Satan's work, or because of The Fall.

Which is funny because if the world was just an ugly piece of slop, we would find beauty in some of that slop because that is the only reality we had ever known.

So in essence, we could be living in slop and have no way of knowing it at all. Does this then prove the absence of god?

Nice point, it always gives an interesting perspective when you flop a viewpoint over onto its back.

Beauty is subjective. And the water in the puddle fits the hole perfectly. (http://atheistforums.org/thread-43.html)

I'm suprised he actually put his beliefs to the test and looked.

Probably the worst I've ever seen is mentioned in one of the texts I had for a class called The Philosophy of Science. The book is called [n]Science and Unreason[/b], by Radner and Radner. On page 7 they give state this arguement (which is used as an example of a bogus arguement)
Quote:According to the second law of thermodynamics, every reversible change in a closed system increases the entropy of the system. (Entropy is defined as the measure of the quantity of energy unavailable for work, or as the measure of the disorder of the system.) Evolution is an irreversible process which results in an increase of of order and available energy. Thus the theory of evolution contradicts the second law of thermodynamics. Creationism, far from being inconsistent with teh second law, implies it. Since God created ther world in a perfect state, any spontaneous change now going on in it is toward increasing disorder.
What I hate about this kind of thing is that Creationists are using the readers lack of understanding of physics against them. People who use these kinds of arguements really irritate me.

It's a good thing we're not in a closed system
