Not again...
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I used to look up at the stars and be able to see the Pleiades with the naked eye. I miss my childhood, occasionally.
I can see very few stars from my suburban home on clear nights. I own rural property 30 miles to the north, where except for the washed out light polluted skies from Portland in the southwest, the skies are quite dark as in every other direction, there is little but urban land and wilderness in any direction. The Milky Way is cleary visible overhead and the Andromeda galaxy barely visible when it's in the southeast sky. Unfortunately, the ex happens to live there.

If you're used to seeing only the few brightest stars, like I am, you'll be bowled over at seeing a truly dark sky. No wonder the ancients were impressed enough to populate it with gods.

There's a place where I used to love to hike into and camp, maybe 50 miles to the east as the crow flies - a wilderness plateau at ~6000' elevation along the crest of the Cascade range, dotted with countless lakes and meadows. One of my fondest memories is sleeping out under the stars (no tent needed in the dry August summer air), with nothing but a down sleeping bag and a small warming fire. The skies are truly dark all the way down to where the treeline blocks the view of the horizon. On a moonless night, you can clearly make out the trees, the meadow, and the lake by starlight alone. It's a truly magical place. (December 11, 2012 at 4:40 pm)Stimbo Wrote:(December 11, 2012 at 4:24 pm)Cthulhu Dreaming Wrote: Unfortunately, the ex happens to live there. LOL, I wish.
