Math has a liberal bias

Math has a liberal bias
Minimalist should love this one.

My boyfriend told me about one of his math teachers. He said, this teacher grew up in the USSR and she got into math simply because it was the only field she felt like she could get into without it being distorted by the government. I can see what she'd say; dictatorships like that have a nasty habit of revising history, science, psychology, geography or whatever other field they can to fit their needs. But no matter how hard thy try, they can't make 2+2=5 right?

Or can they? Fox News is now convinced that basic grade school math has a liberal bias. Seriously. Here's a clip.

RE: Math has a liberal bias
I think his issue was with the phrase "Distributing the wealth" and the picture, not the actual math, so saying they think math has a liberal bias isn't exactly true. I do agree, however, with the guy in the video that this is a terrible "conspiracy."

Hehe
And until today, I thought omniidiocy didn't exist, even at Fox News. It seems they've gone over the deep(er) end.

As much as I hate Fox News, this a complete strawman. They weren't saying math has a liberal bias or were they accusing some mathematical principle or formula of having a bias. They were complaining about the wording of the math problem.

You honestly don't find "distribute the wealth" a rather odd choice of words? Why not "distribute the money" or "distribute the profits"? Or why involve money at all?

True, it wasn't the math itself that was biased, but when explaining this mathmatical process, distribution of money simply seemed like the simplest way to explain it.

Honestly, I think this is what you see a lot of in fringe groups: they believe they're oppressed at every turn so they go out of their way to find oppression at every turn. Sure enough, if you look hard enough for something, you're going to find it. Kinda reminds me of the relationship Atheism+ has with the patriarchy.

It would be of course a rather poor conspiracy if true though.

If you think a dodgily-phrased lesson on the distributive property is bad, it seems that Conservapedia has it worse, because they believe that math itself has a liberal bias; Fun fact: according to Conservapedia, due to liberal tax and spend policies, 8x6=40. No, I'm not kidding here, and, no, this isn't supposed to be in a duodecimal system. That's really something that Andy Schlafly seems to believe. Look here if you don't believe me.

Unfortunately for us, Fox News is not a fringe group.

Of course, although it is easy to see right off the bat that it is not "math" they have a problem with.

What they object to is having the rich person distribute wealth.

These FOX Shits would bee fine if the corporate cocksuckers who run their fucking networks were stealing money from the poor and distributing it to the rich...the way their little fuckhead pals have been doing since Reagan.

Looks more like a liberal spin...it was clearly 'Distributing the wealth' that Fox took issue with...
