I have a better question, Xbox 360 or PS3?

It is however becoming more interesting for me to have a console downstairs and hooked up to the TV than have my PC tower there. So now I am orientating which one to take. Wii is right out, no way I am buying that one.

So that leaves me with 2 real contenders. Xbox 360, or Sony Playstation 3. There seems to be more support for Xbox 360, but a major selling point for me is the Blu-ray capability of the PS3.

So what to do? My main interest is racing, Helicopter sims (but I can do that on my PC so not a real requirement, my transmitter hooks up with the PC), and and GTA series.

You should get a PS3 if you want to. I have a friend here in Oregon that has one and it is so fun to play games on it! I am not a harcore gammer I admit it, but the one thing I like about the PS3 is the blu-ray its a really cool feature it's crystal clear no fuzzies! But my friend also has a LCD flat screen TV with High Def Smile.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Xbox.

I think both consols have user reviews that you could get some good insite about them.

PS3 all the way!

Three words, "Little Big Planet" one of the trippiest games I've played and it is so fun to design machines in the level designer!

I have a brother who is 60 today.....Holy shit! 60, 58, 56 49 and 46. Anyway I asked my son this question, which I regret because he came flying out of his room with a glass of milk and tripped over the gate. Milk everywhere (he has a gate on his door so the dogs don't get in his room and eat his hamsters).
He said he'd rather have a wii.

I've added a poll.

So, in short, I love GTA, and racing games. Which console should I get?

In short, GTA is notably better on Xbox, and racing games are a tossup between the two.

Xbox360.

To be honest... the PS2 is possible the most solid gaming console currently in existence. It is cheaper, with a gargantuan lineup of excellent games, and a pretty darn good (And non-buggy) system to begin with.

I think that the PS3 needs to be backwards compatible with most of those games before it is worth buying (It just doesn't have enough good games for the likes of me to justify the decision). Sadly, Sony has removed backwards compatibility from it's selling points.

The console that I think is most worth one's money is the PS2. Especially if you are not a hardcore gamer, and all the more especially if you are living paycheck by paycheck Smile Of course, if you already have the PS2, or just don't want it: as the gaming lineup currently stands (And if you don't mind dealing with the Red Rings once or twice) then the Xbox360 is undoubtably the better console.

Of course, there is one final thing that should enter into your decision, which is that the PS3 isn't so much a gaming console as it is a movie player. If your primary function for the console is to play movies: that is the only good reason at this point to buy the PS3 (and its a pretty good reason too).

I voted PS3 of course, but this is only because they may eventually have enough titles to support the decision. The lack of backward compatibility (which the Xbox360 has, and I think also the Wii might have it) cripples Sony's strongest point in video games... which is the success of the PS2 Juggernaught. Strange decision by Sony to drop backwards compatibility for ps2 games. You'd think a PS3 could do PS2 games with its hands tied behind its back. Even a software emulation should be doable for them. They do indeed lose a significant library of games that way.

Indeed... and I am still half hoping that the big brass who stated that it was 'Kaput' were lying Undecided

The PS2 game library is one of the primary reasons it is outselling the PS3... you'd think that they would want to capitalize on that... Undecided

PS2's are a 10th of the price tho' ...and there's not much being developed for it now - just the odd port of anything really commercial. Not that there isn't a thriving 2nd user market. I think the UK market is very different in wanting the newer hardware. In the US you seem to like the old stuff.
