Oh? So if someone punches you in the mouth you say "take another swing?"
Somehow, I doubt it.
Maybe if you knew the political and cultural implications of "turn the other cheek", you would appreciate it more.

Why would the saying specify the right cheek? Why not just "cheek" or simply "strikes you"?

Quote:A literal interpretation of the passages, in which the command refers specifically to a manual strike against the side of a person's face, can be supported by reference to historical and other factors.[2] At the time of Jesus, striking someone deemed to be of a lower class with the back of the hand was used to assert authority and dominance.[3] If the persecuted person "turned the other cheek," the discipliner was faced with a dilemma. The left hand was used for unclean purposes, so a back-hand strike on the opposite cheek would not be performed.[4] The other alternative would be a slap with the open hand as a challenge or to punch the person, but this was seen as a statement of equality. Thus, by turning the other cheek the persecuted was in effect demanding equality.

It basicaly gives the "victim" equal rights in court where the agressor getting their ass kicked by a slave was perfectly legal.

well yes but i am pretty sure that it is held by most christians in this way because it is stated in the bible? so wouldn`t it still stand? i mean isn`t that one thing the bible does, define god?

Doesn't make much sense...
It's clear there are some parts where you accept J.C.'s quotes as Yeshua's.... and some parts where you don't.. hence your sig and cherrypickers.
I was just trying to make it clear what parts are those. I'm a biblical ignorant, I don't want to make you pay attention to some detail you're already not cherrypicking. I just want to know which ones you are cherrypicking....
No, you decide for yourself, you're just being silly...
For what it's worth, Jesus is derived from the Greek word and the Greek word is derived from the Hebrew word. All the same person.
As for myself, I reject any and all things that I can identify as pagan in origin. Virgin birth, human sacrifice, triune god, etc.

Oh do tell. Let's have a practical example of apologetic bullshit as you try to turn this passage into something that modern xtian shitwits can live with. In case you forgot, that is not the only example in the passage in question. I'll give you the whole bit to refresh your memory. It's the least I can do.
Quote:38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’[h] 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

He's your fucking god. Maybe he was left-handed? By all means, let's see what nonsense you come up with. ( Be aware, xtians have been all over the web "explaining" what their fucking "god" meant...he's obviously a poor communicator...in this passage long before you became embarrassed by this bit.)

Dude, are you telling me that Jesus is my God?
What the fuck kind of strawman is that, really, when I've been quite open about my rejection of that bullshit?
What we have here is you trying to dictate to me what I'm supposed to believe, fuck that shit, try a different angle as that won't work here. Ask me questions if you must, just be very clear and concise because I will pick apart any ambiguities, strawmen, etc.
