Person A. Idolatry is wrong, it's against Islam...
Skeptic. You said you understand it and even make excuses for it.
Person A. Yes, but idolatry is wrong.
Skeptic. Fucking hypocrites.... Undecided
.

What are you going on about?

I don't give a flying fig if idolatry is condoned or condemned in Islam. I also don't care if my mother eats a cracker and thinks it is the body of Jesus. I don't care if eating cows is forbidden by Hindus. Get it?

My point was about the monuments, and holy buildings all religions buildings ARE monuments to superstition. Just like not eating beef is a superstition with Hindus, unless your doctor is telling you you need to cut back so you don't clog your heart. Then that is a REAL medical reason to stop.

Just like jocks think wearing the same socks will win them the game. A superstition may make someone feel good, and they may share the love of that superstition with others, but it does not make the superstition, or the monuments to that superstition, or the rituals surrounding that superstition valid. It just means people have predilection to a superstition.

.

Matter in fact ; no. The idea of idolatry is rejected in general by Islam, but you see, another contradiction is that Muslims started to glorify these symbols too much. But in the same time, this is no ordinary symbol ; this is the prophet himself. I think idolatry in this case is, well, understood. Because muslims don't have any relics, the Prophet's grave is almost the only thing that is considered as a holly relic.

I don't like idolatry, but the grave is sealed shut because many attempts were made to exhume the grave, according to historical writings the crusades had tried to exhume it too -According to Islamic sources-.

That's why many muslims are sensitive about it.

If our species is still around in a relatively same degree as it is now, say 5,000 years from now, a future archeologist will dig up those graves, or a construction company will build over it or uncover it by mistake. Much like that king in Europe recently got unearthed, much like many of the Egyptian mummies have been disturbed for whatever reason, by theft or archeology.

While I certainly have sympathy for monuments to the dead, because humans do honor their dead. I do not think we need to pretend that we are immortal.

If I were to be buried, which I am not, I am donating my body to science. But if I were to be buried, I would not be able to care if my grave were disturbed. The protection of my grave would be for the living, not me.

And if I was buried, I most certainly would not mind in the future if a scientist wanted to dig me up and check my remains out.

So? You have a problem with evidence? Or are facts only when they agree with your wishes? Because if facts only are supposed back up your personal whims, then that line at the cosmic DMV is quite long, you'd have to get in line and take a number, most of the 7 billion on this planet are in that line making all sorts of claims.

I would think when humans have competing claims they use a universal setting to test those claims. But if you want to waste your time in line at the cosmic DMV, I think it is going to be a long wait for you and not worth your effort.

Back atcha....??????????????

Let me see if I can get you on the same page.

My responses started when a picture of Mecca was posted.

I simply pointed out that it was a monument to superstition.

Someone, I have to look back, but someone said it was not.

Then I explained that there are other monuments, such as the Pyramids which were a monument to the Egyptian superstition that the sun was a god. No sane person today believes the sun is a god. Do you?

They claimed that it brings people of all classes all over the world. I pointed out that so do Churches and and Buddhist Temples. So does the Acropolis in Greece. So do soccer games and NFL games. But having a favorite team or even watching a sport is not a requirement to eat or breath or survive. You can play other sports or watch other sports or not watch sports at all.

My point is that building a building does not make a god real, otherwise the sun would be a god. Having a superstition, like lucky socks, does not mean you won the game because you wore those lucky socks.

Mecca is pretty. So are Buddhist temples. So are some Churches. So are the Pyramids. But none of those buildings make the god/s of those traditions real.

Up to speed now?

Ok, it is a rock people center their superstition around. How's that? Rocks don't make gods real anymore than Pyramids make the sun a god.

EDIT, I was building upon what you said, it still is aimed at our Mecca fan.

Here is an interesting little video. Inside one of the oldest known pyramid in Egypt are engravings of the Egyptian religion that proceeded Judaism.
