So, thousands of scientists, hundreds of acumulative years of study, millions of pieces of empiical evidence to produce a theory is not acceptable to you but one book written by one man making absolute statements about the existance of a God with no evidence is acceptable?
Interesting.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

Per the OP I generally cross the line between person and animal midway through my 4th drink. But then I was always a lightweight when it came to alcohol.

"Scholar'...
I don't think that word means what you think it means.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Doesn't human = moralistic = selfless = acts in a way contrary to the proliferation of the species?

The first the capacity to learn. If one cannot learn, how can it be sentient? The second is the capacity to reason. A dumb animal cannot reason, setting it apart from those that can reason between the choices provided it. And the third principle is the ability to self-sacrifice. If one can override the rules of fight and flight to sacrifice themselves for a cause, a friend, a loved one, that is in itself the highest form of sentient life.

I think atheists just make up differences between people and animals and there are many different ways to do this because no one has any definitive proof according to the atheist standards that people are different from animals.

I think the shoe is more often on the other foot. Unless you believe in something like creation, why would you doubt man is a mammal? Atheists have no problem with that. It is more often Christians who have had a problem with that designation since their taxonomy more often goes: A) creatures created in god's image -vs- B) all other creatures.
