Take my advice, forget Strobel. For apologetics you are better off with McDowell, he at least makes a serious effort.

Mythras in the Greaco-roman version was around the same era as the Jesus story, but Mitra has had many variations dating back as far as 1400 BC.

Mithra was originally the Babylonian god of light, and his birthday was December 25th but it wasn't until the middle of the fourth century that the Christianized Mithra's birthday was adopted as the birth of Christ.

One more thing, I must say I'm not that impressed with 'Zeitgeist' either. I can for the life of me not imagine how believers could be swayed from their religion by that movie.

Leo, have you actually checked Strobel's credentials? I first came across him several years ago when I bought the book: 'The Case for Christ'. I didn't have a particularly strong belief in Christ at the time and hadn't bothered with God for a few years. What was interesting about him is he used to be a journalist (and was the former legal editor of the Chicago Times) and an atheist. It wasn't until his wife became a Christian that he started to investigate the claims of Christianity, the way he would if he was investigating a story, or a murder. Anyway, suffice to say, I would recommend this book as it starts from the perspective of an atheist. I still intend to check out non Christian sources regarding the copy cat claims.

I must unfortunatley agree to an extent about zeitgeist some of it is unnecesary but you will find it hard to disprove what it states.

Catherine, I have read some books of Strobel. He is the guy that poses as a skeptic but he only interviews people that he agrees with or agree with him, then throws some weak-ass softball questions to make it sound fair an balanced. His “Case for a Creator” is based almost entirely on the Discovery Institute.

In his books and interviews he combined New-Earth to Old-Earth philosophies, absolved God of all responsibility while saying he sends people to eternal damnation, gave Christianity credit for every bit of good any Christian has done while saying Christians who committed evil acts weren’t “True Christians,” said Atheism devalues life on Earth while saying the only objective of God is to get as many people as possible to heaven. \

Really, Strobel is about the worst apologist you can defend.

What evidence do you present to dispute the existence of Jesus exactly bozo?

Adrian, I mean Jesus as the son of god,born of a virgin, living, doing miracles, dying, coming alive again, becoming part of the holy trinity.
Stuff like that.

Ok, I'll admit I don't agree with his stance on things like 'eternal damnation'. There's probably much that I wouldn't agree with him about, but for all that He seems a decent enough chap to me. I will be checking non Christian sources as I said.

Hi i have just found this forum and am very pleased to have done so. I was bought up a christian by devouted parents however i always doubted the existance of a god at around 7 i denied his existance and have never looked back.
