WAY off topic.

I say avoidance.

For once I agree with you; "discipulus" has completely avoided the topic of this thread.

I necessarily focus on behavior when considering animals, as we can't interview them.

Do you think that if we could interview them they might tell us how their behavior is determined by their concepts of good and evil?

What does that mean?

Actually, my point was quite simple.

You see Freedom, you ultimately are no better or worse off than the Christian bum/beggar.

That was my point.

You find meaning in life by doing what you do, and he finds meaning in his life by doing what he does.

You may like Beethoven, he may like Chris Tomlin.

Ultimately, it is all preference and when you die, you, like the beggar bum Christian turn to compost.

Assuming atheism is true that is....Confusedhock:

There's nothing about atheism to assume as being true. We take a default position, which is to disbelieve in claims of divinity until there is demonstrable evidence to show that the claim is true. Atheism is not a claim of truth.

The word true does not apply. Please self flagellate yourself in penance.

Edit: Better yet, take a vow of silence...for self reflection, obviously.

When I say "Assuming atheism is true", I am simply saying "assuming God does not exist".

Once again, the phrase should not be too ambiguous.

I simply mean to say that assuming God does not exist and what does exist is the result of natural processes acting on matter without any external and or supernatural superintendence.

We don't assume god doesn't exist. We ask for evidence from the people making claims of a god's existence. If they cannot provide evidence then the claim is either A. False or B. Unproven. In most cases it is choice A.

No doubt....

But you have a belief at the current moment regarding how the human race came into existence and what will become of you when you die.

True?

The problem with your line of thought is that is just a misrepresentation of what an atheist is. An atheist doesn't believe in god(s), that's it. nothing else can be inferred from it, and given the zero evidence for the extraordinary claim proposed by theists, it isn't even a choice for me. Your assumptions are wrong.

True?

I like some theories on it better than others, but they are not beliefs.
