Christians have turned masking condescension as concern and empathy into an art form.

With more than a smidgen of passive/aggressive attitude to make really cloying.
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

RE: christian "love"
The standard for love I read in the NT was something I can agree with.

Love is supposed to be patient and kind. It's not supposed to be envious, boastful, proud, rude, self-seeking, or easily angered.

If what you're feeling from someone doesn't feel like that, maybe they're in error calling it love.

We all know we can't love like that perfectly, all the time. Sometimes we shift from love to jealousy or spite or scoring brownie points, and in that moment we're failing to love. To be authentic, we have to be honest with ourselves and the other person when that happens.

Maybe some Christians really can love everyone unconditionally, at least at times. My advice to them is to show, don't tell.

Ironically, it's this god they pretend loves them who is easily angered.

While I no longer instigate religious conversations, I do often find myself in such conversations due merely to my associates initiating them. Now, keep in mind, I have always been direct. When the conversation does come up, and I tell my theist friends that I am atheist, they look at me like I have the plague. Keep in mind that most of my friends knew me as an evangelical christian. It seems almost beyond belief (pun intended) for them to consider how I could leave the faith. I’ve been told by christians that I was never a true christian in the first place (I too, have used 1John 2:19 to be a dick in the past). One pastor even told me that he used to be atheist, to which I replied, “Then you were never a true atheist in the first place.” At issue for me are the ones who say, in their ever so piously condescending way, “Well I don’t care that you've changed, I still love you.” WTF?! Are you serious? And how have I changed? I'm still the same person (a bit of a prick). It’s not like I just confessed to committing a crime… Or is it? And who is the judge? You still love me? Really, I mean, did you ever love ME, or just what I supported in YOU?
If any christians would like to comment on this “I still love you” phenomenon, that’d be great. Because I don’t believe you. I think once you learn that I WILL NEVER be so ignorant ever again as to believe the fairy tale fiction you want to ram down my throat to make your pathetic selves feel better about believing in some bullshit, that you will in fact reveal your “love” as nothing more than what I already suspect it is…. Unreal, just like the god who “authored” it. Anyone?

Fuck off! Undecided

"Christian" Love does not exist. There is only normal human compassion if anything at all. Statistically, christian love has been shown to be undetectable in the marriage studies and in the prison population studies.

If christians did in fact have any contact whatsoever with an infinitely good god, then "SOME" of it would have to wear off on them! The effect should be strong as they would know that they are dealing with a "real" god.

Anecdotally, the worst human beings I've ever met in my life, the very most evil ones, were all men of strong christian faith. The worst child abusers that I've known were all three church pastors.

A Baptist preacher friend of my father's so angered and tortured his daughter over her lesbianism that her little brother ran out into the yard and set himself afire with gasoline to get them to stop arguing. He was 8 or 9 years old. The father felt so much remorse over the boy's death that he blew his brains out a year later. The mom went crazy. Why? Because GOD told the man to hate his beautiful young daughter who loved another girl.

We know the Bible wasn't authored by god, but by men. That much is demonstrable. But we also can't say for certain that there's a not a god-like being out there somewhere. What we shouldn't do though is toting the idea that there is one around like it's fact. Anything contrary to this is irresponsible and potentially harmful when swallowed.

"I still love you," means they will keep praying for you and hope you will return some day, just as the prodigal son did. We always have hope, if you were the Christian you claim you should know this. However if you were not the Christian you claim, I can understand why you had to ask the question.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I've never understood why a perfect, all-powerful being would be saddled with the useless human emotion of jealousy.

I was being charitable when I said that you were being insincere and condescending. I assumed you understood how the atheist position worked and were misrepresenting it anyway to make a point. The other option is that you really are a moron and even after all this time here you still don't get it.

We didn't leave because there was nothing to leave. We didn't say to the father "you are dead to me", we simply realized that there was no father to begin with.
Just as the lost son did. He said 'he had no father.' You say you have no "Father." There is no difference in your final conclusion.
Whether you take the interstate to your favorite spot on the beach or the back roads your final destination is still your favorite spot on the beach. if you believe your lie (that you have no Father) you can never go back. If you accept your statement for what it is, then if you ever want to go back the possibility still remains.

How is that accurate?

Quote:I have three questions for you....

(1) From what does the father's umbrella provide protection?
The consequence of our sin.

Quote:(2) The father's protection from what... EXACTLY?
Begin left outside of everything out Father looks to provide up with.

Quote:(3) Who dug the pit?
The 'pit' in the bible represents the darkness or lack of anything part of creation. To leave God is to leave creation. I don't know how you are intending to twist the term

Lol, you/we have been given a literal life time of patience. It's after this life is over that you will finally know wrath.,

Yes the lack of book chapter and verse/context, in your appraisal.

It also means putting yourself (your thoughts beliefs and sacrificing your pride) out there to offer to guide anyone home who is looking for their way. Just to be met with anger, distain, hate from everyone else who does not want to be remained that they left home.

Maybe it is we who are 'saddled' with a divine emotion of jealousy.
