Another Reason Religion Sucks

I just read a horrible account from a woman that has endured a 40+ year marriage to the most horrible husband in existence. She has been abused by him since around six months after the marriage.
Why has she stayed with him and lived through hell on Earth?
Because she's a "Christian" woman so "marriage is for life".
Wow. Threw away a chance at a happy life over a fairytale.
That's freaking horribly sad.
Everything I needed to know about life I learned on Dagobah.

She deserved the miserable life due to her silly religious convictions. I do not feel sorry for her.

Why is the dumb bitch telling her story like she's whoring for sympathy? Leave the decrepit fucker, dummy! Maybe then the sympathy votes will come in.

My parents are deeply religious though they are very intelligent people. Intelligence does not ensure rationality. This is something I have found very disturbing about religious people.
However, this woman mentioned this on a marriage forum. So this wasn't a sympathy plea. She was on topic for the discussion where she posted it.

The entire motif of the bible is that suffering pain is a virtue. The lead character expects it from you, and his son/him stalks you and commits a fake suicide to show how much pain is good for you.
That book is morally bankrupt.

There is a strong masochistic element in there if you ever watched the Passion of the Christ but I think it's something people in some way quite enjoy. Like how the Opus Dei wear barbed wire underpants or armbands or whatever. If you're suffering, uncomfortable, denying yourself or starving away you're being Godly/holy. And this fairly universal in most religions.
