Well... if you insist on changing the subject matter of the thread: I've got only two options. Three, if I was the kind of person to ignore people. Option A: I stay relevant adaptively. Option B: I stay relevant unchangingly.
Well... you knew which one I'd go for.

*goes and reads rules so we don't get in trouble
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
Quote:Some people deserve hell.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

In my view, the rules exist as stricter guidelines. Ultimately the staff is there to try to remove any ambiguities. The staff has its own rules. Tiberius can nuke from orbit. What is so complicated?

It's the only way to be sure.

Well, really... it's only a way to have a reasonable expectation of success.
How can you be sure? Nuke it... in person.

One point that I think is not well-understood by the general membership is that we moderate AF lightly. Simply being insulting or rude isn't necessarily enough to get our attention - we look at the context of the thread, and the context of the poster's history and try to make a fair determination. There is a fair amount of necessary subjectivity to the process - and for the 18 months I have been on staff, it has been my opinion that it has been overwhelmingly done without bias. In cases where a staff member has overstepped, corrections have been made.
There is one constant - no matter what we do, there will always be those who are unhappy with it. That's OK - we aren't here to make the most people happy, we're here to promote an environment where people can discuss divisive topics.

I generally get the impression some people use more coy and subtle means for trolling. Unless it's not deliberately invoking highly negative sentiments but instead providing some with belly laughs and others with raeges of teh intarnwebz, I admit to supporting leniency.
That said, some members, such as the late catty, sometimes prefer to just piss people off in general. And all due respect to the moderators and administrators, I really, really think catty's ban was months overdue. He all but admitted in his signature he was a troll, and honestly, he never had anything of value to contribute to anything. His entire purpose here seemed to be exclusively for the sake of enraging others. Granted, he finally made it too blatantly obvious and got banned all the same, but still, his presence here was, I unabashedly state, ridiculously over-extended given his general attitude towards virtually everyone else in posts. Just my two cents.

Me too.
Not sure about the rule that requires us to sacrifice a goat to the mods on New Years Eve but the rest was OK.

I think cat was often misunderstood... claiming to be a christian, but not quite... and then people telling him what he believes, and then him telling them back that he doesn't believe those things...
and escalate ad nauseum.
He did troll a bit, yes... not being an apologist like Drich, he had to mock non-believers somehow...
