Question for my atheist brethren,

Is there any real conversation with christians who actually want to have a discussion with both parties minds being open?

I am new, and this is the first thread I've read, but I've been on enough forums to be able to spot a troll when I see one; and this thread has nothing but xian trolls.

Should I waste my time reading other threads, or are they pretty much all fucked up by these assholes?

According to common christian beliefs, you'll have no plans after you die at all. All you will do is obey gods directive to praise him for all eternity.

Besides that little issue, can you tell us about the day you became a christian? How did god get the message that you wanted to repent and believe him? Did he acknowledge the request verbally?

I agree that death is something we should work to conquer, but if that is possible, science is going to do it, not religion.

What a crock. Death is the end of life. To seek it out, to run away from it...both take up precious time better spent living. The enemy is dwelling on that which is beyond your control, I.e. certain death, theoretical afterlife, etc. Live in the now, because that's all there ever is.

Seems to me Jews have a small understanding of this...too bad christians and muslims don't.

An attempt to enhance quality of life. I've no problem with adding years of 'good' living to our individual ledgers, but, say, spending 30 years in a medically induced coma isn't exactly living. Besides, the brick wall of mortality isn't going away.

My point is that dwelling/preoccupation/fear of death is a problem, moreso than death itself. Taking prudent steps that enhance health and longevity is one thing, obsessing nonstop over the finiteness of life is another.

I get your point but mostly it's an attempt to recapture positive health more than stave off death. If you have some kind of infection, the risk of dying is generally vanishingly low but the medication helps your own immune system do what it would do anyway and make you feel better. Similarly with my depression/anxiety meds. I'm not going to die as a direct consequence of not taking them, necessarily.

Dealing with the problem of death by pretending that there is a magical solution to it doesn't improve our survival rate.

Well firstly when your a Christian your not very bright - Generally you live in a bubble that says whatever happens your 'Safe'. You don't question the bubble as you know it may well burst.

Unfortunately for me when I started being a Christian I had so many questions and I had many Christians turn away from me for asking simple questions. So I made the conscious decision to keep an open mind.

Well look at me now - I'm on a path to Athiesm. This could be in part to me knowing that Christianity was weak even when I joined. But I can sort of understand why Christians dont come with an open mind.

The reason you left had nothing to do with an open mind, you left because you did something that's not possible in Christianity, joining is not part of Christianity. God calls you and you must surrender yourself to that call, God invites you in, gives you the trust you need and makes you a part of His church. Anything like that happen.
