Subsequently, a new diagnosis, ego-dystonic homosexuality, was created for the DSM's third edition in 1980. Chalk that up to another critical failure of thinking for Nineteen, but I'd also add that the "disorder" part of the diagnosis refers to the discomfort the patient feels, and has nothing to do with normalcy in any sense other than "this is wrong and needs to be fixed by realigning the patient's body to match his/her/hir perceived identity."
