It's what they do. Anyone who doesn't listen to their bullshit is "closed-minded." But it is a one-way street and they are obviously under no compulsion to listen to reality.

You're quite the presumptuous little shit stain, aren't you? Too bad about that utter lack of good evidence for any of your claims.

When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Kay, you're my new hero for the day! That really was the perfect pic for that response.

I apologize for this remark. I shouldn't have said this. There's no need for threats of physical violence. I lost my temper and I should've waited 5 minutes to respond.

Yeah, we're here for you. If I had a kid, I wouldn't hide my atheism from him. If some christian talked to him about Jesus, I'd just point to a list of people that also had lives like Jesus. Take your pick. Or just not bother because it's probably just another story that gets told like knights fighting dragons or whatever.

I know quite a few atheist parents, and I'm always struck by how important it is to most of them that their child be given a free choice in life as to what to believe. And I wouldn't want to suggest that Theists are less concerned with the development of their children than atheists, just that for obvious reasons, their goals and hopes are different. I suppose this just reflects the fundamental difference of belief between both groups, and that ultimately, both groups, as a rule, care deeply about the welfare and development of their children, just in different ways. Ultimately, the parent is the anchor in that equation, and outsiders, no matter how well intentioned, should just butt the fuck out. Families, like couples, are a special zone where strange magic occurs, and when people not in that circle try to interfere, the result is usually bad.
Props to you, Cinjin, for caring so deeply and thoughtfully.

I raised my two sans jesus. When they came home from a friend's house with a question we simply told them that some people believe different things. It was a good, NY, multi-cultural neighborhood so he was exposed to catholics, xtians, jews and even a hindu....no muslims as far as I know. Perhaps the sheer multitude of silly religious beliefs canceled each other out?
In any case, both are well into their 30's and have no use for jesus or any of the other kinds of bullshit. Apparently, religion needs to indoctrinate the young and without that indoctrination it can not grow into the disease that it is.

Yes, indoctrination at a young age, and gratuitous use of force for people that don't convert quickly enough. Hence why death is such a common response to disobedience in the bible.

So, what can the father do when it's the mother that tries to indoctrinate the kid?
