Be honest for once and reply to the statement. (April 8, 2010 at 5:46 pm)tavarish Wrote: I'm specifically asking you to back up a claim you posted in this thread relating to the thread topic. You just say you have the logical stance but can't actually support that claim. I'm sticking to the point... you're trying to obfuscate and sideline. RE: Do you think I was being a bigot?

Sounds nice, but wouldn't this just be a self-serving and self-perpetuating tenet of the religion, rather than an absolute and perfect principle by which to live your life? It's not applicable to anyone with an equally dubious statement (for example, Love this OTHER God with all your heart, or Love MULTIPLE Gods with all your heart) or those who aren't predisposed to a concept of God. It is largely dependent on a host of variables, hardly absolute in any sense. Love your neighbor as you love yourself - unless God tells you not to and names your neighbor as your enemy, as evidenced in the Bible. How do you take these laws or teachings as absolute while other's aren't? Perfection is subjective in relation to attributes. He has specific attributes and isn't simply defined by "perfection". It requires more elaboration on your part. That's the thing. It was always like this. Your absolute morals are no more absolute than the ones professed by those of a different faith, and just as questionable. Morals have always depended on society, it was a natural function of coexistence and progression as a species. We wouldn't have made it this far in life without development of morality and ethics. To think that Christian standards are set higher than others is pretty laughable, especially when actually reading and analyzing what those standards are. Slavery? Fine. Misogyny? Perfectly ok. Barbarism? You betcha. How about God-sponsored mass infanticide? All peachy if God says it is. This moral standard is not only potentially destructive, it's fucking disturbing since it can be triggered and justified in the mind of a believer. It throws rationality out of the window. Next time I'll just itemize the questions and I'll give you a percentage of how many you actually answer in a straightforward manner.
There is a fine line between faith and stupidity. Creationism crosses that line. Stick to your guns.
