Well as person with a disability I would love to know if my neighbors have anything that could be a hazard to my safety or to that of my family's safety.

I know I'm looking for good reasons, and this one is pretty damn good. The ONLY two things I can figure is that 1. Some people like privacy, and 2. if a smart thief finds out that you have a gun in your house, he'll either find a time to step in while you're gone and take it, or he'll have no issues hitting all the homes without weapons.

To add to that, once that thief potentially finds your registered cache of weapons, suddenly their are criminals with guns that got them via criminal means. So in this case having a registry is looking kinda dangerous, and the con just might outweigh the pro.

So by government, do you mean just on the federal level, or state level too?

Well didn't really know all I know now until recently. I was a kid when it happened and just knew he was killed in church by some guy. I found out more after looking it up online a couple years ago.

He was the kind of atheist that gives us a bad name. He was going up on charges for molesting his daughter and was pissed at the church because several members wouldn't act as character defense in his upcoming trial.

I don't think knowing it could have stopped me though. Leaving religion wasn't a decision on my part. Religion was just something I realized was BS.

As for your question I don't trust any government state or federal. That's a trait I share with the Founding Fathers.

I'm trying to understand the correlation between your disability and your need to know what is in your neighbors house.

It's the same reason people want to know where sex offenders live on their block. I went over this a few posts ago, but I think giving thieves the same opportunity to see guns in certain homes is a detriment to this plan.

But what does her disability have to do with it?

If I was blind, I think there's a lot to be said for gaining extra info about my surroundings. That's probably what she's alluding to.

I'm still waiting for a reason to even have a discussion about a national firearms registry.

Still waiting.

You've pretty much stated exactly why I'm bringing it up. I can see where it's useful to disarm people with banned weapons so far (since owning certain types are against the law). I have a sneaking suspicion that it's extra red tape that's meant to deter people from getting a weapon, but that's probably something that can't be verified. It seems to me to be an unconsidered reaction; something that sounds like a good idea to some, but has no useful purpose once you look at it.

Another possibility is that it really is a set up for confiscation.

And, finally, there may be a good reason - but I've never heard it.

Or something they could use to save your life?
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

Sorry Quill, I cannot accept your blindness as sufficient reason to divulge to you the contents of my home. On the other hand, I would agree that I have an obligation to let you know that I have a two feet deep decorative pond in my yard.

My point here, considering your disability and safety, is to provide you with information that is readily available to someone that has sight; such as the contents of my yard. A person with sight does not have access to an inventory of my home so neither should you. An obvious exception would be on the occasion I invite you over to dinner. In this instance, I believe I have a responsibility to make you aware of the contents and layout of the rooms you will have access to. I still don't think this constitutes letting you know I own a weapon, unless I have it laying about.
