The advantages of being Atheist

The advantages of being Atheist
I'm hoping this could be an insightfull nonflaming thread where Atheists share the freedom, joy, peace, wisdom, and growth that they received as a result of a conversion to Atheism.

Please tell what has improved in your life and how Atheism benefits those who know you and society at large.

Thank you!

RE: The advantages of being Atheist
The most profound thing for me that has happened as a result of putting a name to my lack of belief in god is the realization that I have one chance to enjoy this life, the people I love, the things I love. I have one chance to be a good person, to make up for my mistakes, to do good things.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I'm much bigger, stronger, more intelligent, more attractive to the opposite sex and a lot richer.

Then again I became an Atheist when I was about 10 years old.

Sleep late on Sundays.
Don't waste money supporting a bunch of charlatans.
Save gas by not driving to church.

I'm still young so right now it hasn't been a big impact. But, its surprisingly brought me closer to my parents(Keep in mind they are still theist).

Yes, I suppose someone focused on the next life could miss out on this one. Good point!

I would say that anyone who was thoroughly trying to live Christian morality and had a conversion to Atheism, would have more orgasms after the conversion.

I'm guessing there would be extremely rare exceptions to that rule Smile

When I left my church after 17 years, I felt so free, I could have beer without feeling guilty, I could go to the shops on Saturday, as my church were Sabbath keepers, yea just total freedom.

It's been nice not to walk around in a niqab (face covering, gloves, abaya etc etc). Quite a few people in my life had never seen my face until I gave up Islam (at least those who met me while I was muslim). It's nice to not have to feel guilty all of the time too. That's probably the most liberating part of being an atheist for me at least.
