You seem to think that I am some evil villain just because I am in favor of guns. You have it backwards though. I am a moral caring person that will stand up for and protect my fellow human. The only people that should fear me are the scumbags that want to do evil heinous things.

I'm not convinced that assault rifles have practical value in home defense. Perhaps if an individual with his family lived on a farm and was being invaded by a small army, certainly. In most cases of home invasion, a shotgun or even a handgun is extremely effective as a deterrent. Unless you're planning on a contingency where you work with a network of individuals to band together and overthrow a government that you think is corrupt, assault rifles are nothing more than very lethal pieces of entertainment in civilian hands.

Bad Writer, you do know that assault rifles are all but illegal to own, right?

I'm in support of concealed carry too. A person open-carrying any kind of weapon paints him or herself as a target, and can endanger others. I'm wary of assault rifles in civilian hands because of their potential for heavy death tolls in isolated events, to name a reason. I feel their use should be restricted to wartime, private security, and entertainment (i.e. Gun shows and competitions).

I'm not sure they should be legal to own at.

By the way an AR15 is not an assault rifle.

Indeed. I guess I should change my wording to "military grade weapon"? An AR-15, whatever its variant, is essentially an M-16.
It seems that AR-15s get their own special treatment in gun control laws because of their non-assault rifle status.

It is not military grade and it only looks like an M16. I can dress up a Ruger 10/22 to make it look military but it is still a semi auto 22. The looks of something are not the defining factor here.
The M16 is a full auto select fire Assault Rifle. The AR15 is a semi auto Defense Rifle made for civilians.

No, an AR-15 is not "essentially an M-16". If you look at an AR-15, you will notice that it lacks a selective-fire switch. An AR-15 is no more potent than any other .223 semi-automatic.

I'd say that it is the most versatile defense and sporting rifle on the market.

It is, actually. You are really caught up in these semantics, but you still can't provide a good, practical application for assault rifles, nor the AR-15, which is a weapon you were the first to mention in this discussion, except for those that I already mentioned, all of which exclude civilian usage beside sport, entertainment, and competition. Now, if you will, get out of the weeds, and explain why these weapons are must-haves for home ownership.

Sparty by definition it is not an Assault Rifle. Are you opposed to all centerfire semi auto rifles?
There are many reasons why the AR is a "must have" for home defense. It is much easier to aim than a pistol and has superior terminal ballistics. It is much easier to handle than a shotgun. Many women find the recoil of a shotgun to be excessive. The AR has a very mild recoil. I could go on and on. I could give you expert testimony and provide link after link but if you really are interested you can find this yourself.
A good forum for information on AR style weapons is m4carbine.net.
