If Americans Are Stupid Enough To Fall For This - They Deserve Whatever They Get.

RE: If Americans Are Stupid Enough To Fall For This - They Deserve Whatever They Get.
Quote:Defense spending would increase. Domestic programs would be reduced to the lowest levels since modern government accounting. And Medicare would be converted into a “premium support” system, where people 65 and older could purchase private insurance with federal subsidies instead of government-paid health care.
So they'd get their health insurance paid by tax dollars in order to avoid having them in a program where their health insurance would be paid with tax dollars? Or am I missing something?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

It means the government would pitch in a few pennies on the dollar for the cost of any insurance they might buy.

Ever looked at a health insurance premium for someone over 65?

I already have hired them. Who do you think pays for their goddamn benefits? The least they could do is clean the trash off the road in front of my house or anything to try to earn it.

So having children means you can't work? Well sign me up captain cuz I have 5 kids.

I have a lot of customers that work in the agricultural business. They have to get Mexicans to do the labor because Americans on welfare are too fucking lazy to do it. They tell me they would go out of business if it were not for the Mexicans coming over here to work.

The jobs are easy to learn and I'm sure someone would be glad to teach them the skills so they could earn a living instead of getting a hand out.

Well, of course, I mean, we need to protect ourselves from... from... ...?

Quote:...And Medicare would be converted into a “premium support” system, where people 65 and older could purchase private insurance with federal subsidies instead of government-paid health care.

If either of my two in-laws were to ever call to apply for private health insurance, the agent on the other end would laugh and hang up the phone. I think it's a fair guess that most of the over 65 crowd are un-insurable for one reason or other.

But hey, they'll have a coupon for a product they won't be able to buy. That's valuable.

Quote:...Mr. Ryan is assuming his cuts would prompt a burst of economic growth to raise tax revenues above what independent economists forecast.

Well, hey, in fairness, the whole tax-cuts-create-economic-growth-which-increases-tax-revenue-to-pay-for-itself has never been tried before so it just might work.

Well, OK, we tried it under Reagan and it didn't work.
...and we tried it under W Bush and it didn't work.
...and we did the opposite under Clinton, which the GOP predicted would be an economic disaster, and doing the opposite worked.
...but other than those three times, we haven't tried it yet. It just might work this time.

Considering you contribute at most a few cents of tax to welfare for the desperate, broken and needy, rounding them up to give you the cents worth of work will cost more than the actual "work" would gain...

Didn't think that part through, you entitled shit, eh?

He said Child Care, you dolt.

Would you rather they leave their children home alone, uncared for?

Would you rather their young ones starve because their providers are slaving away for jackasses like you?

The Mexicans do it because there is even less for then in Mexico.

They are desperate.

And your solution is to make the poor desperate?

I have no interest in making America more like Mexico.

You apparently do.

I pay more that a few cents. I probably pay more in taxes than you gross each year. I'm certainly not entitled. I work dumbass.

People that work have to deal with child care also. Having kids is no excuse for not being able to work.

No my solution is for them to work the jobs that are already here.

At least this part sounds good.

Many collecting food stamps ARE working full time. A lot of retail outlets and fast food places pay so little, that workers still need food stamps to survive. There's no excuse for that. We as tax payers are subsidizing Walmart and other corporations, allowing them to squeeze their labor costs on the government's dime. No one will work just to starve so without Food Stamps, Walmart et al couldn't get away with paying so little.

This is another example of "corporate welfare", only instead of direct subsidies, this one is indirect. Any full time worker that needs food stamps to survive should have the costs of food stamps plus administrative fees billed to the employing corporation. Or raise the minimum wage. Whichever.

Kyle on Secular Talk has spoken about people actually working full time, and still not being able to make a living wage because the minimum wage is so low. The rich mostly care more about money than stimulating the economy, which seems counter productive. If they actually helped the poor in this country by creating jobs here and paying people enough, they would still be rich. Also more popular to boot.

I was really talking about career welfare recipients.

You are right about the corporate welfare. It's crony capitalism.

It is a strange breed of "capitalism" we have here in America, I agree.

I'm all in favor of discussing the abuse of any government program. If you're looking for a broken part of our welfare system, the disability process is really broken. People who truly need it are denied while there are others who are capable of working who are successfully on it.

That said, the working poor is the new face of food stamp recipients. The GOP shrieks about "more people on food stamps than ever" but they don't look into why that is. Raising the minimum wage or billing the corporations for their workers on public assistance would drastically reduce those numbers.

I also have a problem with the one-sided "fiscal conservatism" of the GOP. If the GOP has all of a sudden, after saying "deficits don't matter" through the Bush years, suddenly decided that we need to bring down the debt, we need to put EVERYTHING on the table, including all the stuff the GOP loves:
  • All forms of corporate welfare
  • Our already bloated defense budget (needs to be cut in half at least)
  • Tax cuts for the rich which have no stimulative value to the economy
  • The War on Drugs
  • Tax exempt status for churches

I wish Democrats would be proactive just once. Instead of reacting to the GOP's demands, turn the table and say, "Oh, we're broke are we? Well, let's talk about what we need to cut then."
