What should minimum wage be? I assume you must be thinking of a significant hike. A buck an hour is only $40/week pretax at your maximum workweek, and that's not changing anyone's life.

A wage that keeps up with inflation, so that minimum wage is something that people can live off of. If you need multiple jobs or long hours to make ends meat off of minimum wage, then what's the point of minimum wage?
How many hours would be acceptable? I'd like work, free time, and sleep. Eight hours of each fits nicely into a twenty four hour day.

How much? "Live off of" is ambiguous.

That depends on where you live. Living on your own, I would suppose you'd need enough for a roof over your head, enough to pay the monthly expenses, enough extra for things that don't happen every month, and maybe a vehicle if you don't live in a place with public transportation.

The ones that talked like you NEVER got hired. I figured them as being lazy. I don't care what their qualifications were I wouldn't hire them. Now I agree that it is nice to work only 8 and make out fine on it but the real world usually isn't that way. My mind set is "however long it takes". I'm not lazy. I have worked 32 hours straight before with no sleep and minimal breaks. If you cannot afford to increase the pay of your lowest-wage employees, you are probably on the verge of bankruptcy. In which case you might not want to be dismissive of government programs for assisting the poor and jobless, seeing as you might be joining them soon. This is not to say that you should automatically give them all raises, but the idea that a wage increase for your lowest earners will force you to raise prices doesn't make much sense. Wouldn't it be more likely that giving raises to your highest earners would have a greater impact on the bottom line?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I could barely get through twelve and a half hours without a ten hour energy drink. I can't imagine working for 32 hours. Of course I wear contacts, and they need to be taken out periodically so my eyes can rest. That kind of work is probably physically impossible.
I'm just not the kind of guy that wants to spend his youth with his nose on the grindstone so he can retire and have some fun when he's older. I guess unambitious people like me are at a disadvantage when employers want as much work a possible with as little pay as possible.

Which is funny, because I'm guessing Alpha Male's job description is either Janitor or Handyman.
