Giving something up permanently. when someone in the old testament sacrificed a sheep or a cow, it didn't come back three days later as the best sheep or cow in the universe.

None of the people that killed Jesus meant him as a sacrifice to their lord. They were just killing a criminal. Yahweh sent him down to be killed, therefore Yahweh is the one offering him up to be sacrificed. I would expect Yahweh to lose something if it really was a sacrifice, but he's portrayed as an infinite being in all aspects.

Jesus lived longer on earth than many people get to, had an admittedly horrible week on the cross and supposedly in hell, then came back to rule over the cosmos. In the grand scheme of things, what was really lost?

As I've said before, unless he has massive PTSD from being burdened with sin, which should make it very hard to rule anything, I don't see the sacrifice.

God is not punishing anyone. That would be the god of this world. Remember what Jesus said about this world; I am not of this world, neither are you of this world. And when he was upon the cross, the rulers and authorities in their ignorance did not know all He was accomplishing. At His death He broke all their bonds and that is why the temple was split from the bottom to the top, so that those who could not cross over before, would now be able. Jesus did not come to call the righteous, but the sinners to repentance.
He warned that many false prophets would come in the world, and many there are. Sadly people do not seek the truth, but allow themselves to be guided by blind ships that have no course. And many are afflicted and in pain and think that if they go to church every week and pay their penance, they are saved. And they run to and fro looking for the Kingdom of God in this place and that place and they simply cannot find it! Because IT IS NOT IN THE WORLD. It is right where Jesus told them to look for it. Within.
No one is saved because a pastor wrote the date down in a bible and handed it to you. That is ego. Being saved means that you have poured out your entire heart, mind and soul to God because you are ashamed of who you are, and you simply cannot bear to be alone in this world anymore without Him. Half repentance will get you nowhere but feeling good about yourself for a few days. Whole repentance will change your entire life, and fill you with something you never had before. Peace and Hope.
What are you saved from, you asked?
I always imagined that being separated from God was like dwelling at the bottom of the ocean; where man cannot go because the pressure is too low, and strange, creeping things move around in the dark where its cold and silent. That's not somewhere I want to be. If God is giving you a gift, why refuse to take it? do you want to be reborn back into this world over and over again, to feel pain and suffering, or worse, end up at the bottom of the ocean with no hope?
You think God is far away from you? He is right there inside you. just waiting for you to give Him a chance. He is the one who truly loves you, why do you think He sent His son down to this wretched place to be beaten, laughed and spit upon and killed. He didn't deserve that, I did. And you did and everyone else who reads this, because we were born into this world unclean. And that is not our fault. that is the fault of the rulers. And He knows that. That is why He gave himself over to a perfect death, so we could follow and live with Him forever. You are heir to the kingdom of God. Find it. Know who you are.

I was also one of those people going around trying to "save" people. Little did I know at the time that I would be saved from the real evil. Religion. And what a joyous day it was.

I am not broken. I am not UNCLEAN. Religion is evil, making people believe they're worthless and vile. And it pisses me off.

A sacrifice is when something dies, and then comes back in two-and-a-half days. This is why God always gave people their burnt goats back in the Old Testament; because that's how sacrifices work.

It would be stupid to burn a goat and to have it stay dead. That would be wasteful, and God's not wasteful.
