The problem was caused by the idiotic new jersy law that tried to make all other gun sales illegal without any weighing of the merits and faults of the new technology. The new technology requires batteries and an unreliable rfid connection and goes against one thing gun owners hold very dear, reliability.
More than that it is saying,
1. American citizens won't have the right to own/sell guns that they've had to right to own/sell for 200+ years.
2. This is an obvious forerunner to the government forcing Americans to choose only a specific type of electronic gun that as soon as an anti-gun political blows, can be turned off or disabled by external means.
3. It makes clear to gun-owners, that the anti's don't give a fuck about our concerns at all, not even to the point of acknowledgment, instead given only propagandistic ridicule.

Why do they always specify that the gun was loaded? Doesn't "person was shot" make it pretty clear?

That's really a very good question. Perhaps one of the gun nuts can offer an opinion on whether or not anyone was ever shot by an unloaded gun.
Seems unlikely to me but always ask an expert.
(Sort of reminds me of another pet peeve I have about journalists. Whenever they do a story about the Dead Sea Scrolls they have to remind us that they were found by a Bedouin boy looking for a lost goat. Fuck the goat. We get it already. It's been 60 years.)
