Evidence In Exchange

God wouldn't force you to do anything, would he? That would violate free will, or something.

In any case, that is the entirety of the Christian moral code: to do what god commands, without question. It seems superfluous for a Christian to try and determine why any act is right or wrong. God determines it for them, and tells them what to do and what not to do. They are to obey, that's it. The only "right" is to do what god commands you to do. The only "wrong" is to do what he commands you not to do. Or as Yoda would say, "do or do not, there is no 'why'."
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Divine command right thur.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Dammit, why do I work night-shift? I miss all the good stuff. Anyway, I'm late to the party but here's my two cents:

(June 12, 2014 at 1:22 am)Eye of God Wrote: For Faith?!?!??????

That makes no sense. You just can't seem to get your small minds around the fact that if there was all this evidence you wouldn't need faith. That's the whole point- one must have faith.

The whole idea of believing in something comes from the understanding that there are some things that cannot always be explained. You cannot tell the all powerful creator of the universe that you'll give him your faith if he can first produce evidence. The first negates the need for the latter.

So stop trying to reason you way out of hell and just accept Jesus as your Savior and your God.
Why let your silly pride and your ridiculous ideas keep you in utter torment for all eternity?!

Galileo Galilei once said, "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with senses, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use and by some other means to give us knowledge which we can attain by them.". Now while I am more than dubious that a god created us, or indeed granted us our mental capabilities, I am convinced that the notion of completely throwing out evidence, and the cultivation of a world view based on said evidence, for a life based upon faith is both irresponsible and erroneous to say the least.

Your definition of belief is ridiculous, belief is outside the realm of choice. Belief is achieved by convincing arguments, and evidence. I do not believe that there are, in all likelihood, no deities because I like that conclusion over it's antithesis; I believe it because this is where the evidence has led. Desirability is not a requisite of the truth, EoG.

I would highly suggest a quick glance at a definition to atheism, because you seem to be functioning under the assumption that atheists actually believe in deities but just choose not to worship them. We aren't "reasoning" our way out of hell, or any such nonsense, and your pitiful attempts at scare tactics are nothing we haven't heard before.

The fact that you think you're in a position to tell anyone that their lives are meaningless is laughable, do fuck off now.

"Lord Jesus Christ, I accept you into my heart. Take away my sin and take control of my life. From this day forward I will live to serve you."

No. Been there, done that. After grueling self-introspection, and honest critical thinking I found that the "Jesus" bloke to whom I was praying was me all along. That's why he cared about the things I cared about, knew me so well, and forgave me at a moments notice.

Take your proselytizing elsewhere, I don't need an imaginary friend anymore.

Would you have "faith" that I was telling you the truth if I said that Stimbo was the one, true god?

No, You wouldn't, you wouldn't even entertain the thought. Why? I 'm sure that it would be because you don't automatically trust strangers that you don't know when they seem to be trying to get you to believe something that comes from their own claimed stash of knowledge.

However, this is exactly what you have been doing and have done in order to become a christian in the first place. You didn't know anything about god until someone else told you via voice or print. You don't know anything about god that the bible authors haven't told you because you have no first hand knowledge or contact with god. (If you did, you wouldn't have any need for "faith," you would have "knowledge and evidence.")

Your "faith" is not faith in "god", it is faith in a god story told to you through ancient anonymous authors who did not have faith, but instead either had direct contact with god or lied to further a con about their "made up" god.

The Other Poll
I propose a question for Eye of God:

Do you believe in the Christian God?

No: I want to live my life in accordance with what is best for me and others here on earth.

Yes: I want to waste the one and only life I have believing in a fairytale God Father/boogymen and worrying about whether I will go to a non-existent heaven, or a non-existent hell.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

Thankfully, that act has not been asked of me and I am glad because I personally have nothing against homosexuals or working on a Sunday.

Sorry buddy but you need some serious mental health help.

If you knew the Bible fairy tale you would know that your "Lord" told the ancient dummies to roast their kids to see if they were actually stupid enough to do it. He gave them all kinds of crazy rules to follow because he knew that they couldn't do it. On top of that he gave then delusions so that they would believe the lies. And since your "Lord" and Satan like to fool idiots by pretending that they are being truthful how would you know that they aren't just B.S.'ing you to see how stupid you really are?

Satan told Jesus that if Jesus jumped from the top of the temple the angels would catch him. You can do that and see if the angels will catch you. A baby fell 11 stories and didn't suffer any major injuries because the angels caught him. They'll catch you too since you have such strong faith. And then you can tell us all about it.

I'm so glad I don't believe in your God. It must be awful hoping that he never commands you to kill people you have nothing against.
