Have hide tags always killed YouTube links or am I losing my mind?

I know originally we would use the video tags but I thought even in hide tags just posting the URL in the hide tags alone worked. Maybe its just broken for me? Now I just see the URL when I open the tags.

It works fine if I add the video=youtube tag so its not a big deal.

Having a youtube link converted to an embedded video is a mistake in the first place .
You have to put it inside the video tags or else it will have everything after it converted into a link .

Https in Youtube links provokes that bug apparently.

Make your link start with http://, not https://.

I've also noticed before that the "" tags (which disable automatic embedding) don't work for links starting with https. But when I turned it to http, then it worked.

Also, a video inside the hide tags will work if you put the Youtube link one line below the first hide tag instead of right next to it.


Edit (and off topic): Why are all the kudoses that I've given still orange, though? Is it possible to make them look the same as the regular members'?

Let me illustrate the situation were in.


The template and regexes for placing YouTube video links is hosted inside the database.

Not the server code. Thus updating it, and other things, is a royal pain in the ass.

It doesn't help that one mistake in the database embedded PHP monstrosities can be very difficult to debug.

To be perfectly frank, I really would prefer to move to a solution that puts data in the database, and anything that manipulate the data in the code.

But we can't do that. Unless I go on a bender for six days and then re-implement everything....
