Let the record show that I still think you utilize what I would categorize as "self" to make most of your statements. Even if your theory of self is that there isn't really any there there, you still have a viable theory of self. Given what I think you believe it becomes interesting to understand the function of consciousness that provides (unbidden) a narrative to fit the many events of your organism into the tale of your 'self'.

"I" understand that the effect "I" perceive is not always indicative of reality.
But yeah, it works- and that's why it counts, that only goes so far though. I try to straddle the line between those who would relegate self and identity to uselessness and those who would cast the net of self and identity beyond the only place we seem to find it.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. It's semantics. When I am dead, I won't be. We call, not being after having been alive death.

I apologize, but semantics is actually saying that you are dead. When you are dead you cannot be so you are not whatever you think you are, cold, hot, bored, in need of pussy. You cannot be all these things.

I just told you void doesn't exist, why on Earth would I believe that. Put no words/things in my mouth please, or I'll be tempted to do the same, especially if you got a cool profile pic <3
Puleeese. I didn't say you thought dying was going into a void, only that I didn't. ---- Put something of yours beside words in my mouth and I may bite it off. ----

Unless you believe there is such a thing as a person (however changing) outside of brain function, how changeable or stable that person is is irrelevant to the question of whether a person continues after the brain in which it existed ceases to function. The brain ceases to function and the personality or ever changing personality ceases.
Sister, when you are brain-dead, when there's no cerebral activity...are you dead or alive? Dead or alive? Rhetorical question, you don't need to answer it, so now, if only a part of your brain shuts down, how are you? Dead or alive? Can't you get it that it's not black and white, it's a gray area? A part of you is dead and the other stayed alive! So then of course you can abuse the language and say you're alive but everyone knows that it's the alive part talking...dead one is gone.
Sure it's simple. The complexity you are inserting into this discussion is not really about death so much as what it means to be alive.
If you begin really considering time as dimension, then in a sense we do die and are reborn every nano second. But when the question is asked, is there life after death, what we mean is will I be in the next nano second after all brain function finally ceases, and the answer is no.

Why not? There's plenty of life forming around you besides new neurons in your head...

Sure there will continue to be some life after my death. It's just that the brain function I'm fond of calling me, won't be part of it, though the atoms that make up me, undoubtedly will be.

The fact that You (Y) and Other Universe You (OUY) occupy different locations by default means that they are not identical. A simple thought experiment should dismantle whatever remains of the idea of sameness.
Given your notion of an exact copy in another universe I can accept the idea that if we were to instantaneously interchange Y and OUY, neither would know the difference. But, what would happen if we introduced them? The immediate divergence of experience destroys any notion that we are dealing with the same person. Also, I don't think it unreasonable to conclude that Y, upon introduction, will immediately conclude that OUY is someone else despite the uncanny resemblance.
My transporter analogy much more simply and clearly put. Thank you.

I don't know. I've seen this idea expressed a lot. Issue is we are finite beings contemplating what we would think as immortals. There would be no concept of time in eternity. I'm not sure it would be all that bad.
8000 years before Jesus, the Egyptian god Horus said, "I am the way, the truth, the life."

What crap do you give? Are you among those that want statues of themselves built and their name marked on it in memory of their great, whateverish achievements?
Also, like I said before with the thalamus, your sense of being you during the day is a high, and sleep is the low. Sleep prepares you for the high. We see this with Fatal Familial Insomnia patients, after 4 months of no sleep, some no longer believe they exist, some say they're already dead. Just check this video at 3:40 and tell me if you believe that he's alive:
