Identifying the word of god
#31
RE: Identifying the word of god
IMO, the Word, or Divine Logos, is not a set of texts. It is the living and primary emanation from the First Principle. Reason applied to experience points to the First Principle. When someone understands the First Principle, then they can recognize the correspondences between spiritual and physical reality in any text that has them. The only test is someone's ability to discern spiritual truths.

You're special to us, Michael Angel

Seriously though, on this forum there seem to be very few 'enlightened' christians (christians who incorporate enlightenment, secular and/or liberal values to their interpretation/expression of their faith). For some reason, it tends to attract a more literalist and/or right-wing crowd. Many of the theists I see are from the US: that may have something to do with it. Maybe it's just confirmation bias on my part...

I have an unhealthy anger that I can't seem to control when it comes to these weak minded sorts. My Grandfather died last week and his funeral was on Friday. He was a man of scientific mind that questioned all things, including religion, but some dipshit preacher came to turn my grandfather's burial into his own preaching ground. I was so disgusted I refused to shake his hand afterwards and told him to get the hell away from me. These morons are cursed with utter stupidity, and I felt robbed by a Jesus freak. It should have been a time for his family and friends to remember the man and recollect on his life and why we all loved him, and not a phony that died over 2000 years ago, if he ever existed at all.

Coffee rant over.

You know how we all sort of suspect that the really vocal homo-phobe might just be gay? Just saying.

I don't care how you dress that pig up, I'm still not going to fuck it.

Perhaps the reverse is the case. Perhaps you are dressing down the handsome youth of transcendent principles into the curmudgeon of materialism. :-0

At least pigs can be shown to exist.

"Every luxury has a deep price. Every indulgence, a cosmic cost. Each fiber of pleasure you experience causes equivalent pain somewhere else. This is the first law of emodynamics [sic]. Joy can be neither created nor destroyed. The balance of happiness is constant.

Fact: Every time you eat a bite of cake, someone gets horsewhipped.

Facter: Every time two people kiss, an orphanage collapses.

Factest: Every time a baby is born, an innocent animal is severely mocked for its physical appearance. Don't be a pleasure hog. Your every smile is a dagger. Happiness is murder.

Better to remain silent and be thought the fool than confirm the belief by speaking...or in this case mocking what you clearly don't understand.

Define first principle or it really is word salad.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

Provide evidence that this is nothing more than your confirmation bias.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
