Lonely and a bit depressed

Lonely and a bit depressed
I've been down this road hundreds of times before. I'm not in a dangerous place, I'm just uncomfortable with my life right now. I started college a couple weeks ago. I commute and I haven't made a single friend since school started. I spent 2 years prior to that in and out of unsuccessful community college attempts. I've been lonely for a very long time and in old news I have been much worse. I try going on 4chan skype threads to add people on /lgbt/ and /soc/ (the lgbt board and the cams and meetups board). It just doesn't curb my loneliness and I crave some sort of real life interaction with others. I'm just wondering if anyone else has ways of dealing with these personal problems. It seems like our society today is so incredibly impersonal. It feels like society is designed so that no one actually has to interact with each other.

Dunno I know the felling, but I don't know what to tell you. I'm also friendless in college. Honestly, coming here for the first time was an expansive experience for me, but not so much anymore. I'm probably the worst person to get advice on socializing from...

Can you think of any particular reason that you are having trouble making friends?

I can't think of any reason why I'm not making friends. I can think of theories. I don't live on campus and my guess is that campus life would be a lot more personal and involve a lot more social interaction. My parents can't afford it though. I haven't joined any groups at my college. The only 3 that sound interesting are the anime group, the gay and straight alliance group, or the secular society. I don't really have any interest in joining any of them though. I dunno what the hell the secular group of the school would even talk about when they get together, I'm not really an avid watcher of anime, and I'm not really that interested in guys, so I dunno about those groups.

I empathise. You don't feel you can be sociable but suffer from lack of social interaction. Cure: throw yourself into a situation that you have to socialise. Join a group with the unashamed intention of making friends. You may find soul mates who aren't really interested either. Great. Buddy up.

I'll try joining the secular alliance of my university.

Take a walk outside. Feel the sun and the fresh air on your face. Allow nature to embrace you - you're part of it.

Weak advice. I run outside every two days and it doesn't help.

You're welcome. I hope your depression doesn't take you further down.

ETA: I find that my own loneliness decreases proportionately to my kindness toward others.

Sorry for the rude response.

No apology required. I can appreciate that you've been outside - perhaps while there you've even considered what my humble suggestion implied. The last part of my post is key...

I don't want to imply that you haven't also considered this part, and please forgive my naivety if I've seemed presumptuous.

It's the recognizing yourself as being one with your surroundings at a core level that is cathartic, not merely being outdoors - though it helps to be so.

I bid you speedy healing. Love
