Before Ferguson, there was Albuquerque

Since 2009, according to city records, Albuquerque Police Department officers have been involved in 47 shootings, 32 of which resulted in deaths — a body count that Police Chief Gorden Eden said has called attention to a "systemic failure in our ability to track employee misconduct.''

Civil lawsuits have cost the city millions of dollars. More than that, a Justice Department review of at least 20 of those civilian killings concluded earlier this year that a "majority ... were unconstitutional.''

At what point do the 'neighbors' who wrongly alert police become liable for any of this? When police show up expecting a burglary they are already pumped-up on adrenaline.

Milwaukee cop won’t be charged despite video proving she lied about seeing illegal strip searches

Last month, a jury awarded Leo Hardy more than half a million dollars after it determined that Officers Michael Gasser and Keith Garland Jr. “maliciously,” and with “reckless disregard” for his Hardy’s civil rights, subjected him to an illegal strip and cavity search.

However, that verdict hinged not on the manner in which the search was performed — it was rendered because the officers lacked probable cause to initiate the search in the first place.

It is but the first of over 60 such cases against the Milwaukee police currently in the works.

In the latest related investigation, Officer Stephanie Seitz told investigators that she had not witnessed any of the alleged searches, even though in one of the videos obtained by the prosecution, she can clearly be seen standing a few feet away from an illegal strip and cavity search.

When prosecutors discovered this video that contradicted her sworn testimony, they initiated a perjury investigation. The prosecutor’s office determined that she had been “clearly untruthful” when she claimed not to have seen a fellow officer remove drugs from a man’s rectal cavity.

Cops lying? Who's a thunk it?

What's going to happen the next time she testifies at a trial and the defense lawyer rips her to shreds on "credibility?"

An African-American man, shot to death by Utah police who claimed he attacked them with a samurai sword, was shot in the back, according to an independent autopsy requested by the man’s family.

22-year-old Darrien Hunt, was shot and killed by police while walking around with the souvenir martial arts weapon outside a convenience store in Saratoga Springs, Utah, last Wednesday.

According to the Associated Press, the autopsy concluded that Hunt was shot “numerous times, all from the rear.”

I imagine our resident Blue Crew will figure out a way that someone can effectively swing a sword while facing away from the supposed target.

Missouri teenager in medically-induced coma after cop uses Taser on him

17-year-old Bryce Masters is listed in critical condition following his encounter with Officer Tim Runnels on Sunday, during which Runnels used a Taser on the teen. One witness, Curtis Martes, told KCTV that Runnels approached Masters’ vehicle after pulling him over and asked him to roll his window down. However, Martes said, Masters’ window did not work properly, stopping him from following the order.

But police said Masters, whose father is an officer for the Kansas City Police Department, was being “completely uncooperative,” forcing Runnels to defend himself.

He had to "defend himself" from a rolled up window? Something does not smell right, here.
