We had 30 years of deregulation started by Reagan and ever since jobs unions and manufacturing went overseas, and worker pay has not kept up with cost of living. So you think corporations would do the right thing on their own despite the fact they don't do the right thing right now?
Um no, all less regulation would do without a mindset change on their part would be more gass on the fire.
The First Amendment is an anti monopoly law that addresses issues of religion, freedom of the press, and political parties, and protects the right to assemble and dissent. But somehow that same anti monopoly concept magically does not apply to the private sector. If the private sector wont do the right thing on its own, something has to step in to regulate it.
But do not try to blow smoke up my ass and try to convince me that our current climate is full of the likes of COSTCO and Moo Cluck Moo who do the right thing. No, our climate is a majority of Walmarts and Koch Brothers and Papa Johns.
Given a choice I would rather have been born today than say 30 years ago. The standard of living in this country has increased significantly in the last 30 years. You make it sound like things have gotten worse since deregulation which is an outright lie. People today live much better than people did 30 years ago.

By what measure(s) has the standard of living in this country "increased significantly in the last 30 years"?

As a genereal rule people have to work less hours to buy a particular thing.
Are the poor really getting poorer?

Only some things. Not houses, for instance - unless you want to live in Detroit.

Yes, and homelessness is on the rise, drug addiction has increased.

I bet your average house built 30 years ago is smaller and not as nice as your average home built today. I don't know if the amount of labor hours necessary to buy a square foot of a typical home has decreased....but I suspect it has. I just think your claim that houses cost more is wrong.

For the middle class in my area, my experience suggests they are.
The house I grew up in, 4 bedroom on an acre+ lot, cost about 1.5 my father's annual salary. Twenty years later, my first house, 2 bedroom on 5 acres, cost about twice my annual salary. This is for middle-class homes and middle-class salaries.
Houses today typically cost more like 3 - 5 times annual salary for comparable situations.

I'm smart enough to not vote for people who want to regulate my ability to post videos for or against candidates onto the internet.
But you will follow them in lockstep like the mindless drone that you are.
