I'd appreciate you stop patronising... and I THINK that locking someone up, and taking control of their free will until they die is a death penalty !

Sorry, but didn't you just say that torture and the death penalty are different? How can you advocate for a death penalty and in (very nearly) the same breath decry something you've just said is a death penalty. This is rather like being pro-water but anti- H2O.

I'm not sure how incarcerating someone until they die qualifies as a death penalty - they're going to die anyway (everyone does).

Removing bad genes via executions? I'm pretty sure I don't want to know what other notions float around in your head. Yes, you are made to look like the bad guy, with no outside help.

Care to elaborate?

Well because you're not sure, doesn't mean I'm wrong ! It means you're not sure !

I am for the death penalty in very extreme cases, and this looks like an extreme case to me. Rehabilitation is great, but if you're so far gone that you hang the kid upside down and beat him like a rug then you're probably just a straight sociopath. I think spanking him at all would be a little harsh, but you take the whole cake factory.

Fair enough, that was sloppy wording on my part. I'll try again:

WHY do you consider lifetime incarceration to be the equivalent of a death penalty, when everyone is going to die anyway, in prison or out of it?

After you dodge that question, have a lash at this one: Why on earth would you cite the Human Rights Act's position on torture, which you oppose, when it expressly prohibits the death penalty, which you support (at least in the case under discussion)?

I agree completely... spanking a small child upside down is completely wrong...anything else if downright evil..

Nice to finally get an apology from you Boru !!! (of sorts)

And I'll answer the question you're telling me I'm about to dodge ..! You're like a politician who's on my case for some reason !

In prison for life, (almost) equals the death penalty simply because it takes away your freedom !

And lets take the US for example.... against torture, but in many states pro death penalty...

Being pro death penalty doesn't deviate much from being religious - Both require a lack of knowledge on science (in the case of the death penalty - Criminology) and a high degree of belief (that the death penalty is this wonderful method that will fix the problem right away). If someone killed my relatives, I'd kill the person myself, I wouldn't ask the State to fulfil my revenge using justice as a cover system.

If at least the death penalty decreased crime rates, practical utility would exist - A sentence without practical utility is worthless. What intimidates criminals is not so much the severity of the penalty, but the certainty of it. If there is a feeling of impunity, that's a half-way ticket to increase crime rates.

Do you know what... I posted about an evil act, and yet you lot are chirping in like I did something wrong... try having brian sodding numptyy challenge every post you make even if it's about the weather and see why I take a small victory !

This potentially a great forum with like minds, yet some of your are just here to big up your egos.. if that's you then get lost and block me... you're boring

(and yes I don't mind being challenged... but not on semantics and spelling)...

I apologize if you thought I was offering an apology. That was not my intent.

The removal of freedom doesn't qualify as a death sentence. The end result is the same, whether free or incarcerated - you're going to die.

Let's NOT take the US. You specifically cited the Human Rights Act, a UK law, not some mishmash of foreign laws. WHY would you cite it to support your argument for the death penalty, when it specifically PROHIBITS the death penalty?
