The death penalty ..

RE: The death penalty ..
It's probably the logical extreme to the anger stage of grief. You get into the anger stage, and you want blood. That's one reason why professionals are kept away from situations they are deemed too close to. You can bring up charts that prove empirically that DP doesn't really work, but the fact is that someone did something so sick that you want to rip their head off and try to forget they ever existed.

You know, when I hear vocal defenders of Capital punishment, I always keep thinking: Let them push the button for once, let them experience it first hand how it is to take a life. Don't delegate.

Sure, there are sickos out there, but I wonder how many DP defenders would have a crack in their armor after such an experience. And by the way, so have many working inside the prison industry. There are many examples of wardens or staff members, who couldn't cope anymore and turned into being advocates against capital punishment.

I'd go a stage further in that scenario. The one doing the killing has to face the victim, look them in the eye, while doing it. As exemplified in Saw VI: "You listen to me, you son of a bitch! Look at me! When you're killing me, you look at me!"
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I hear you.

That's why I said in my previous post, that I probably wouldn't have any problem killing someone, who hurt my loved ones.

But that's just our emotions. The law should be entirely stripped of emotions and simply stick to the task of protecting society. Which can be just as easily done by locking offenders away.

And you'll get no argument from me on the matter. Law should be indeed be objective, and not based on emotions, because as I noted in another thread, emotions often lie outside the bounds of reason.

I can imagine that if you save it for the real sickos, then a lot of us could do it. Knowing that a quick death by bullet to the head would be better than that person deserved.
