Why I'm still not a Christian.

RE: Why I'm still not a Christian.
I'm not an atheist for many reasons, but I'll start with this: some people say Jesus was a Jew. If so, then why Christianity?!

As well, I guess I just find the laws of physics, as I am able to observe them, as just plain indulgently fascinating. The existence of a god would taint that for me.

Plus, I just want some proof, please, when you say anything is true. If you say for me to refer to the bible, I will tell you to shut the fuck up. Especially if you are condescending about it. I have no room for condescension.

RE: Why I'm still not a Christian.
There are a bunch of reasons why I could never go back to being Catholic (thankfully, none of them involve a priest touching me), but I never fully bought into it to begin with. My parents were non-practicing. They believed, but I can count the number of times we actually went to church on one hand. I said this in my intro post, but when I was told I was baptized I cried. I was only 7 or 8 years old, but even then I felt like it was a violation of my right to choose, and I wasn't convinced that the Catholic god was the right one for me since I was aware of the existence of other religions in the world. My love of learning about ancient cultures in history class cemented those questions. "Why are their beliefs merely myths, but belief in Jesus considered truth? What about other religions like Islam?"

So, I went through a phase in high school and early college where I was essentially a deist. But even that wasn't satisfying. It was a belief that felt good, but wasn't supported by any evidence. I finally admitted to myself that I was an atheist shortly after 9-11 (no, it wasn't spurred by those events), and that I was always an atheist.

Unless there's legitimate, verifiable evidence of a god, I can never go back to believing in one. And I don't mean historical evidence that may or may not coincide with the stories. I need proof of the divine because the whole point of theism is believing in the miraculous. And I simply can't do that unless it meets very rigorous scrutiny.

simple really. Describing the god in the bible is better than most personality defect detectors I know.

I'm not a Christian, or any other religionist, because I have too much self respect and respect for other people.

If I was a Christian I'd have to condemn people I don't know simply because:

1. They don't believe what I do
2. They choose a lifestyle my "holy" book says is wrong
3. My beliefs make me an arsehole.

I'm also not a christian because my brain is not built to be able to contain such a mess of internal contradicitons, or being able to argue that something means the exact opposite of what it says.

"That is one set of bad wheels ya gut there dude."

translate that. A literal translation has no meaning. Out of context it seems rather stupid. How about between two 17 yr ld kids down on the strip late Friday night?
so I don't think I'll side with a anti-car guy when they point to this statement as in error.
