As an Atheist am I not allowed to just be fairly nice to people? I don't want to go around murdering and/or raping people, even if it was allowed by the law.

These religious people seem to actually want to do this, which is pretty scary.

Hold on now, I agree that religion sets up tribalism. But in rightfully saying that atheists should not pretend we are above evolution ourselves. I do run into atheists who hold the same "if we just use force" we could get that peace.

Our species tendency in evolution is to form groups, and when we see the transgressions of others affecting us, far too often we find it easier to get violent as a quick solution.

Unfortunately both cruelty and compassion work in evolution, but never get the bad idea that atheists are not capable of doing the same. Our minority status currently gives us that false perception. There will be a future where you and I are not alive to keep that peace or prevent a deluded atheist from acting the same.

I agree that old books are not a good way to view life. But atheists should never presume that we are above the same nature all evolution stems from.

I don't think that Atheists are above doing terrible things.

I don't personally want to murder or rape people though. It's just not my thing and I'd rather do other stuff with my free time.

Well in any case to know why Phil's race does not make him a bigot and his religion does, google search any state you want and look for atheist groups. There are atheists in every state and plenty who have southern draws and like country music.

Robertson is a disturbed individual. No one needs religion to know child rape, decapitation of innocent women and severing a man's penis all done while mocking the dad's lack of beliefs is not only wrong but pretty damned sick. Hopefully, he never physically hurts anyone but his example is disturbingly specific.

His description of "atheist behaviour" ironically sounds like something you'd find in the Bible or the Quran...

Lets not think in terms of labels, there are lots of believers and atheists who would want revenge for rape(mob rule). And there there are lots of believers and atheists who would take an arrest contain and let the jury do it,(rule of law).

I myself as an atheist would have the same emotional reaction to rape, my mom was raped when I was a teen. But I it still would not give me the right to take the law into my own hands after the fact. And I don't like our growing Nacy Grace presume guilt media either. I still would rather let the guilty go free than to convict one innocent person.

Now that does not negate the horrible morality of the God character. Has the power to stop bad things but does not. Believers, left or right still are not getting their morals out of that book like they think, their morals are in them, the book just gives them excuses to follow a comic book.

Our morality is in our species, not our labels.
