We need to go further than Obamacare takes it.  We need a single payer plan.  It is good enough for our seniors.  (try taking away medicare from them)  I am a Veteran it is good enough for me at the VA.  Yes there are horror stories of wait times, but when something is urgent medically shit happens FAST.  I can personally attest to that.  The routine stuff is what gets reported.

Can it all be fixed, sure.  Can Obamacare be fixed, sure.

WTF is the republicans alternative though...going back to the same way it was before?

Oh, you're totally right.  The ACA is merely the enactment of what was possible not what was desirable.  I'm so sick of this horseshit that "'Murrica can't do x" even though the rest of the world manages to do it quite nicely.

What we need is Medicare for all.  Fuck the insurance companies.

One of the reasons I opposed ACA initially is because it represented a massive transfer of wealth from public coffers to private corporations; it was insurance companies raiding the Treasury. I still dislike it for that reason, but I would rather that than see people suffering with no possible recourse.

My son's mom fought a ten-year running battle with cancer. After seeing her denied the best care, and subsequently dropped, I don't trust the insurance industry one goddamned bit. Point of fact, they already are the "death panels" that the far-right fuckheads tried to trump up. Medicare saved her life.

Absolutely. But sometimes you have to crawl before you can walk. Obamacare is like don't ask, don't tell - the best we could realistically get at the time. It'll probably follow the same pattern in that it will have to do for about twenty years before we can get what we really want.

So far, everyone who has replied agrees with you, so you are not getting blasted, at least not yet.

It is the best that was politically possible at the time, and if we were trying to get something now, we would not even be able to get something as good as Obamacare.

But yes, single payer is the right way.  Politics, though, involves compromise if one wishes to accomplish anything, and so we have Obamacare rather that a single payer system that we should have.

The Republicans have nothing to offer that would be better.  They would make things worse, and want to make things worse for poor people.

Yes, you are exactly right.  Insurance companies are the death panels.

And you are right that the ACA is transferring public money to private corporations.  It is not at all ideal.  But it is much better than how things were before.  It is a compromise, rather than an ideal solution.

Understood. My 28-year-old libertarian self is pistol-whipping me right now, but as I grow older, I feel more that we should stick together to make things happen. And quite frankly, I find the thought of denying full health coverage to those unable to pay for it inhumane.

Inhumane.

When no one is looking, Obama is going to go off by himself somewhere and read Robert's opinion, and laugh his fucking ass off.

I'm disappointed Obama seemingly wants to win this way.

I'm not surprised, just disappointed.

Obama was on Marc Maron's podcast 'WTF' Monday. He explains the reasons why ObamaCare turned out the way it did. It is crazy to hear the current president on a comedy podcast. But the result was awesome.

And he said "nigger" in context that put Faux News in a tizzy.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
