RE: When did Christianity buy marriage?

I've been saying this for years. Christianity did not invent marriage, it is a practice the religion has appropriated from older cultures that stretches back into pre-history. It's why I roll my eyes when I hear this "in defense of Christian marriage" argument to oppose gay marriage. I don't want or need the "Christian marriage" pizza topping, I'm not a Christian. When I want to settle down all I want is the legal marriage contract in front of a judge and for it to be recognised legally.
You can have your "Christian marriage" for all I care, I don't even think Churches/mosques etc should be forced to carry out gay marriages. I just think this privilege for Christianity being an authority on "the valid marriage" needs to be stripped away. Nobody "owns" marriage.

God spent the old testament being completely ok with marriage being between one man and multiple wives (and the wives didn't have much say in anything, since they were pretty much just cattle to their husband). Haven't you read the bible? Humanity has been constantly redefining marriage and gay acceptance is just another step in that direction. Even more recently, interracial marriage was supposed to be against gods' will, but now the same Christians who objected to interracial marriage are objecting to same sex marriage. That my friend is the problem with far to many bible thumping retards, they haven't read the bible.
Yeah, I know. I like pointing out the bad parts of the bible to them. I mean, they talk about how god has some kind of sacred idea of marriage, but most of them don't have any idea that the OT law books say that if a woman is raped she has to marry her attacker. Yep. They love to quote homosexuality being an abomination, but rape-marriage is conveniently forgotten about (same section of the bible, too).

It's the only rule in the Bible prople seriously seem to give a fuck about. You've got Western societies full where divorce rates are through the roof and, let's be real, nobody was a virgin on their wedding day, the Christians don't care. *gays have sex* ERHMAHGERD ABAWMINAYTION!
I heard someone on the news earlier describe the last few days as "America's darkest point in history". What the fuck are you for real? I don't even need to say it, we all know about American history and it's not pretty...

Oh poo, I'm getting the confused again.
Everyone everywhere has to follow the christer's rules about marriage, but it's OK if adherence to stuff like killing unruly children, eating a pepperoni and cheese pizza, having sabbath at times other than sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, wearing mixed fabric clothing, and stepping foot out of the house while menstruating is strictly optional and not codified in the nation's laws ???
Damn, I'm going to need a real clear and specific bible verse to buy into that mess.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

If he has defined it as that, nobody has any right to change that definition.
The first step of making that answer remotely viable is demonstrating the existence of your god.
I'll wait.

People don't know shit about their own bible.
Go look up how many wives King Solomon had while god looked on, rubbing one out. Then tell me again how biblical marriage is between one man and one woman.
Marriage just happens to use the same word as an outdated idea. This new and improved marriage is allowed to evolve, as all laws do, in the interests of a better society. You can keep on refusing to do it in your churches, we don't care. We don't tell you how to do your weddings. So don't presume to tell others who don't share your religious beliefs what to do.
